There is no worse feeling than watching one of your loved ones getting lowered to his forever resting place. There is that sense of reality hitting you hard on the face and letting you know you won't ever be able to see or speak to him again. I can only guess that it's easier to rationalize it all when it happens after a long illness or at an advanced age, but I bet the loss is not easier no matter what. I stood between my mother and Violet being the rock to both of them, while Jojo was comforting my baby brother on my Mom's other side.
