Maya stood outside the bedroom of James it's currently nine o'clock and she is still deciding on how to ask James to give her permission to meet her mother

" okay I would knock then he probably shout at me for disturbing him and then tell me to enter then I will serve him this hot choco then I will the conversation okay here I go " she knocked at the door and just like she predicted James shouted from inside the the bedroom this made her roll her eyes " i***t " the door was opened and she immediately formed a fake smiled " good morning sweetheart " James looked at her and smiled " good morning come in " and then he left the door open for her to come in Maya thought to herself " he smiled at me well that's new and weird let me go in before his mood changes "

James was currently sitting on his bed when Maya entered she dropped the steel tray on a table close to a sofa and picked up the mug that was filled with hot choco and gave it to James he took it and sipped from it while looking at his laptop " yes why are you still standing "

here I go " um my mom" James suddenly looked at her this scared Maya " well my mom asked me to have lunch with her today by two can I go " James looked at her " no " " why not " James dropped the mug on the small cupboard close to his bed and fold his arms " I said no and no it is " Maya thought to herself " then why smile at me in the first place" her thoughts were Interrupted by James " you can't go because I need you to do something for me " Maya sighed and said of course quietly " did you say something" " nothing what do you want me to do for you" " am throwing a party later this evening by seven I want all the preparations done before we come back here are the lists and my credit card " he handed a paper and red credit card " use the money wisely alright " Maya took the them from his hands and scanned through the list " this is too much for me to do I can't do them all alone I need help you need to hire people to help me " James groaned " fine it's not like you can do something progressive anyway I will hire but if you by chance mess this up I am going to make you regret it understood" " yes" " now leave I need to prepare for work " Maya left the room and went to her room " how am I expected to meet my mom now okay I will prepare everything and arrange what needs to be arranged and then leave my hope I don't get caught " later that day the helpers arrived and was helping Maya with everything it was 1:30 now and Maya still hasn't left yet she checked the time and instruct the helpers on what to do and then she left to go get ready she wore a yellow gown with flower designs on it and then used a black scarf to cover her hair and wore black sun glasses she boarded a taxi and went to the restaurant her mom texted her to come the taxi stopped in front of the restaurant she payed and came down and then went inside the restaurant it was 2 : 05 when she got there Maya said to herself " why did mom have to chose somewhere close to the company " she saw her mom and went to and took a sit in front of her " good afternoon mom it's good to see you again " Maya thought to herself that her mom still looks as beautiful as she as always been yes she is now a bit old but still beautiful her mom smiled and answered " good afternoon Maya it's good to see you too you don't look okay " Maya replied " what do you mean I am fine " " no you don't let's order something first " she called a waiter and they ordered their lunch her mom looked at her again " Maya what's going on you don't answer my calls or reply to my texts you haven't even come to pay a visit since you got married " Maya replied " mom I am fine it's just that me and James have been trying to balance a few things that's all ". " for three years now that you have been married you guys are still trying to balance things I know something is wrong because you look tired , you just walked in like you are some kind of spy that don't want to get caught which means James definitely didn't give you permission to come here and now still you are feeling agitated because you are constantly shaking you legs while looking around and it has not even been up to five minutes since you got here" she was interrupted by the waiter who was serving their food Maya ordered spaghetti with meat balls and orange juice while e her mom ordered salad with water the waiter left and her mom sighed " my point is your marriage is not what it seems I mean your company is literally falling and when I call someone at work you are never around if there is something wrong Maya tell me I am your mom you can always confide in me is there " Maya had head bent down her couldn't see her face to tell what she was thinking but slowly she began to see tears fall and hear sobs she took her hand " Maya look at me tell me ". Maya raised her head and looked at her mom " mo...m am ti..red you were right James isn't who he is my marriage is a lie mom he hits me " her mom gasped and held her hand tightly " mom I don't have a say in my life I could not reply to your texts or call you because James took my phone and only gives it when he likes we leave like strangers he doesn't even treats me properly I just don't know mom " she was still crying

" there was a time when he got drunk and used a bottle to hit me" her mom looked broken and tears began to fall from her eyes Maya continued " I used my arms to shield myself I don't know what to do " " Maya all these happened and you didn't tell me ". " I could not "

" why don't you file for a divorce " Maya looked at her mom " I can't" " and why not " " he would kill me " "what " " he told me if I ever tell anyone or file a divorce he would kill me and kill that person so please mom don't do anything or say anything please am begging you I don't want to lose you pleas mom "

" Maya you are suffering silently and you want me not to say anything " " mom please just do this for me I know James and he will truly do what he says please mom " " Maya " " please" her mom hesitated and then sighed " fine then I won't say anything but am going to talk with him " " what no don't do that "

" I will I won't let him know you met me today but am just going to talk to him okay " " okay" " let's eat " I can't I have to go before James sees me " she stood and her mom shook her head and followed her outside she turned to face her " Maya you remember the time when I told you not to get married to James and you thought I didn't want what's best for you but I know what's best for you and that's why I said that " " and I should have listened you back then " a taxi stopped in front of them " Maya take care if it gets too much I am here for you remember that" Maya hugged her tightly and bid her good bye before entering into the taxi . Maya got home and met James in the living room she got scared " oh you are back " " where did you go to " I went out to get something but I could not find it " James stood up and went to her "if I find out you met your mom you are dead" and then he left Maya exhaled and said to herself " am safe for now " then she left to her room.
