“Why are you not in class, Liah?” He spit at me. “I did not let you out for you to wander the halls.”
“I was going to the bathroom” I whispered, looking at my feet.
“Look at me when you speak” he spat, pulling my face to look at his.
I looked up at him, his eyes black with anger. Athena growled at his anger. She didn’t enjoy being spoken to in this way, but we both knew the consequences if she acted upon her own anger.
“I’m sorry, sir. I was going to the bathroom.” I said, again in a whisper.
“It’s time to go.” He turned on his heel and froze. “Kyra?” She stood behind him.
“Hello, Dylan.” Her voice full of disdain.
He growled, “I am your uncle. You will show me respect, pup”
“I will show you respect when you deserve it.” She growled back.
I whimpered and tried to move to the wall.
“Liah, how do you know my uncle?” She asked, sweetly, not taking her eyes off me.
“That is none of your concern, child.” Dylan growled.
“It is my concern, as she is going to be the Luna,” Kyra said matter of factly. I gasped.
“Luna?” He turned and looked at me.
I looked at him, then back at Kyra, “Luna?” What was a Luna?
“Didn’t Deacon tell you? He’s next in line to be Alpha?” She said.
“Deacon is Alpha?” Dylan laughed, “Liah, get your things, it’s time to go.”
Suddenly there was a growl that shook the lockers and the floor, and yet I could feel all my fear being eased. I looked behind Kyra and saw Deacon pulling his sister behind him. His eyes black, his wolf taking over.
“She isn’t going anywhere with you.” He growled.
“She is my property. I am taking her back.” Dylan said, blocking me from Deacon.
“I am telling you to give me my mate, or I will rip your throat out.” Deacon said, very slowly. “NOW!”
“She is my property. If I didn’t give her to your father, what makes you think I would give her to you, boy?” Dylan laughed, grabbing my arm.
In seconds, Dylan was pressed up against the wall, Deacon’s teeth in his throat. “I said, she is not going anywhere with you.”
Dylan put his hands up, “Fine. You take her. Just know I will get her back.”
Deacon put him down and held his hand out to me. I grabbed it and he pulled me into him, burying his face in my hair.
We waited until we knew he was out of school. Deacon took a deep breath and looked into my eyes before running his eyes over me, checking for injuries.
“I think it’s time we talked about what you know about my family.” He said, still angry.
