His World

Deacon’s POV I looked over at my mate sleeping peacefully and smiled. I pulled a blanket over her and kissed her temple. I could feel someone trying to link me and I sighed. I opened the link and I could feel my dad seething. My office now. What’s going on? I’ll tell you when you get here. Bring Liah. He closed off the link, and I looked back at Liah. She looked so perfect. Her new mark was still raw from last night, but I knew that it would take longer to heal due to me being an Alpha. I wanted to let her sleep, but Dad never linked me angry. I knew it was something important. I gently touched her arm and woke her up. We got dressed and walked hand in hand to my dad’s office. She looked up at me, worry written on her face and pouring through the bond. I gave her a smile and a gentle squeeze. I opened the door, and my dad was pacing, my mom was sitting on the couch with her head in her hands. “Dad, what’s going on?” I asked. “He’s coming for her.” He pointed at Liah. I knew he was talking about Dylan. I knew the bastard was crazy, but I didn’t realize he was stupid. “The f**k he is.” I growled back, instinctively pulling her behind me. “He called and said he would get her back. We could either give her to him, or he would declare war.” Mom whispered, her head still in her hands. “He is not getting her!” I roared. “SHE IS MINE!” I was fighting for control with Chase and he was on the verge of winning. Liah wasn’t just the love of my life, she was our mate. She was our entire world. Chase knew everything that Athena went through, even if Liah or I didn’t. He told me once that if he ever saw Dylan he would take over and he was going to rip his throat out. I didn’t ask what their big secret was, mostly because I knew Chase wouldn’t tell me, but more than anything Athena would tell us when she was ready. She might not ever be ready, Deacon. That sick bastard did a lot to our mate. More than anyone could imagine. I know, buddy. If we see him again, he’s all yours. Like you really had another choice. He said and shut off our link. I could feel Liah’s fear through the bond. I pulled her to my chest and buried my face in her hair, trying to calm us both down. She started to sob, as her knees gave out. If I hadn't been holding her, she would have fallen to the floor. “Baby, I promise, you aren’t going back. I will kill him myself. You are right where you belong.” I said, looking at my dad “What are we going to do?” He sighed, “I don’t like the idea of going to war, but she is the future Luna. I would be a fool to not begin to prepare for this.” He ran his hand through his hair. “Call Sam and gather the warriors. Maybe even call Alpha Michael and see if he would spare a couple of warriors. He still owes me a favor.” I opened my link to my beta, allowing him to hear the conversation. “Deacon?” Liah said, her voice wavering. “Liah, you are safe. No one is touching you.” I kissed her forehead. “He’s been gathering rogues. Alpha Jacob said he heard of a rogue pack of about fifteen hundred wolves. We have the numbers and the strength. I just don’t understand what happened to him.” Dad said, “I know losing one’s mate can drive a man mad, but I can’t understand.” “It wasn’t losing Aurora that drove him mad. It was losing his son.” Liah said. We all looked at her as she continued, “One of the experiments was giving me my wolf. I was suffocated, drowned, given shots of live viruses. I was stabbed, had bones broken. He kept me awake until I passed out. I was starved, dehydrated until I finally got her. He never knew which experiment worked, so he did it again. And again. After the third time, Aurora came, and she had a needle and Athena snapped. I don’t remember anything else. When I woke up, I was 15 years old.” She had tears streaming down her face, “I remember hearing them arguing about how none of this would bring him back, that she just wanted a child.” We all stared at her. My mom ran to her, pulling her from me and sobbed. I knew my mom felt guilty. She had a chance to save her, but she trusted her sister-in-law. She always wanted to believe the best in people. She never wanted to believe that her own family could be so cruel. My dad hung his head and sniffled. I had never actually seen my dad cry, but I knew he felt the same as Mom. Aunt Aurora was his twin sister. Even after their fight, he told us stories of them growing up. She was his best friend before she had mated Dylan. Dad had always said he never fully trusted Dylan, and at this moment, he knew that he should have followed through. As an Alpha, hearing about a member of his pack being hurt was extremely painful. Hearing that it was Liah, someone he had come to love, was heartbreaking. A knock on the door interrupted our moment. Sam walked in and looked at Liah, sympathetically, before looking at Dad. “Alpha, we have prepared the warriors. Alpha Michael said he would be honored to stand with us, and he would send 300 warriors in the morning. I also called Alpha Jacob. He and his warriors will be here by nightfall.” “Good. We must warn the pack. If there are rogues this close to our territory, then they must not leave pack grounds. Have Kyra set up a pack meeting immediately.” “Already done, sir.” Sam nodded, he looked at me “Omegas are already cleaning the guest housing and we have people moving into the temporary housing closer to the pack house. We had a 50-mile perimeter and had not found a rouge, but Felix said he smelled them in the northwest sector. We sent 4 more on the patrol with him. No one is getting through without one of us knowing about it. I have Gamma Jackson overseeing the accommodations.” Everyone had always wondered why I chose Sam as my Beta. This was why. He was probably the most laid-back person, until it came to pack business. He was fast on his feet, and he took no s**t. We made other preparations. Liah was still in my arms, tears streaming down her face. Even the mate bond wasn’t calming her down. She wasn’t just terrified for herself; she was feeling guilty of a war over her. She didn’t feel worth it. Every once in a while, she would look up at me and give me a tear-filled smile, trying to be strong for me. We spoke for almost two hours getting preparations ready for our pack’s move and the rooms for the visiting warriors. “Good, let me know when dinner is ready.” I said as I picked up Liah bridal style and carried her back to our room. I set her down on the bed and looked at her. She was visibly shaking, her sobs had stopped, but the fear was in every part of her. Tears were still streaming down her face. I went to the bathroom and turned on the tub, putting in her favorite bubbles and bath salts. I walked back to her and stood her up, pulling down her pants and panties. She stood as I undressed her, not making a single sound. I picked her up again and set her gently in the tub. I stripped down and climbed in behind her. I pulled her into my chest and began to cry. I hated that I felt so helpless. I hated what she went through. Most of all, I hated that she had to remember it. I buried my face in her neck and inhaled her scent, trying to calm myself. I wanted to be strong for her. I wanted to kill Dylan. I wanted to blame my parents. I wanted to scream and yell and punch something. I also wanted to hold Liah forever. I could feel her settle down as she drifted back to sleep. I stood up with her still in my arms and awkwardly put a towel around our bodies. I laid her on the bed and pulled a blanket up to her neck and kissed her temple. I smiled at the realization that I had done the same thing, almost two hours ago. I pulled on some shorts and a t-shirt and grabbed my shoes, closing the door as softly as I could. I walked to the backyard and took off running towards the treeline. I could feel myself shift before I made it and a heart-broken howl broke through my muzzle. The howl was heard and felt by everyone in the pack. Even though they had no idea why I was so heart broken, I could feel the pack’s sadness. I took off running and tried to run away from my anger. From my mate’s pain. I ran for hours before I felt someone trying to link me. It was Liah and even in the link I could feel her exhaustion. Deacon? Where are you? I could tell that she was worried. I’ll be back in just a bit, beautiful. I turned around and ran back towards her. Are you okay? No. I’m angry. I’m angry that my family did this to you. I’m angry that you were alone for so long. I’m angry that I can’t take away your pain. She was silent but I could still feel her. I knew her leg was shaking and she was biting her bottom lip. Meet me behind the packhouse and bring me some clothes please? She still didn’t say anything, but I could feel her mind running in circles. She was scared that Dylan was starting a war. She was worried about our pack. I saw flashes of her memories and whined at each one. I made it back to the backyard and began pacing back and forth. She is the most powerful person I have ever heard of in my life. What do you mean? Can’t you feel it? Her power. She’s strong. Not just because of all the things she went through with that psychopath, but because she was born strong. Holy s**t. I said it was hidden behind her fear and her emotional and mental scars, was an Alpha aura. Not just any Alpha aura, stronger than any I had ever seen or felt. Who was this girl? How was I lucky enough to have her as my mate? I smelled her before I saw her and all my anger faded. I walked up to her and laid on my belly, submitting. I submitted to her because she was stronger than I was. She was stronger than anyone I had ever met. She rubbed my head and gave me a kiss on the nose. As an Alpha, I didn’t submit to anyone. Not even my father. She put the clothes in front of me and I grabbed them in my mouth and walked to the tree line and shifted back, quickly getting dressed. As soon as I finished tying my shoes, I ran to her and picked her up by her thighs and kissed her. I kissed her softly and set her down, wrapping my arms around her and pulling her into me. I kissed the top of her head before pulling back, using one of my fingers to pull her face to look at me. “I love you. You are the strongest person I have ever met.” I said. She smiled at me, it not quite meeting her eyes. Dinner’s ready. Sam said through the link. 5 minutes. I closed the link as I pulled Liah back into a kiss, one hand behind her neck bringing her as close as I could. She wrapped her arms around my waist, her hands pulling my shirt tight. I pulled away, and she pouted. I smiled at her and put one arm around her waist, pulling her to the packhouse. Dylan had another thing coming if he ever thought he would let her go.
