Episode 6: The Truth Behind the Betrayal The world vanished in white light. Lin Yue couldn’t see. Couldn’t hear. Couldn’t breathe. For a terrifying moment, she thought she had died. Then she heard a heartbeat. Thump. Thump. Thump. Slow. Weak. Fading. A familiar heartbeat. “Mo Chen…” Her eyes snapped open. She was lying on a field of silver flowers beneath a moonlit sky. Everything was silent. Too silent. No monsters. No battle. No destruction. Just endless silver flowers swaying in the wind. Confused, Lin Yue slowly stood. “Where am I?” A cold voice answered. “The space between worlds.” Lin Yue spun around. The silver-eyed woman stood several feet away. Her expression was grim. “What happened?” The spirit looked away. “The Forbidden Flame exploded.” Fear gripped Lin Yue instantly. “Mo Chen?” The woman remained silent. That silence was enough. “No.” Lin Yue’s heart pounded. “No, no, no…” The spirit closed her eyes. “The attack destroyed the Devourer’s avatar.” “And Mo Chen?” The woman finally looked at her. “He disappeared.” The words hit like a knife. Lin Yue felt the air leave her lungs. “No.” Tears filled her eyes. “He can’t be gone.” The spirit’s expression softened. “He knew the price.” Lin Yue shook her head violently. “No.” Images flooded her mind. Mo Chen protecting her. Mo Chen fighting monsters. Mo Chen standing between her and death. Mo Chen smiling before the explosion. Her chest felt like it was breaking apart. Why did it hurt so much? Why? The answer terrified her. Because somewhere along the way… She had fallen in love with him. The realization struck like lightning. She loved the Demon King. The man she was supposed to fear. The monster everyone hated. The demon who would sacrifice everything for her. A sob escaped her lips. “No…” The spirit watched quietly. Then she spoke. “You finally understand.” Lin Yue looked up. “What?” The woman’s silver eyes became sad. “The same thing happened to me.” Silence fell. For the first time, Lin Yue saw genuine regret in her face. Not arrogance. Not anger. Regret. The spirit looked toward the moon. “I loved him too.” Lin Yue remembered the visions. The ancient memories. The wedding dress. The dagger. The betrayal. Her eyes narrowed. “Then why did you betray him?” The spirit froze. Pain flashed across her face. A deep pain that had survived centuries. “I didn’t.” Lin Yue blinked. “What?” The woman laughed bitterly. “I never betrayed him.” The words echoed through the silver field. Lin Yue stared. “But you—” “The memories are incomplete.” The spirit’s eyes darkened. “The truth was hidden.” A chill ran down Lin Yue’s spine. “What truth?” The woman took a deep breath. Then she revealed the secret. “The real traitor was never me.” Thunder echoed across the silver sky. Lin Yue’s heart skipped a beat. “What?” The spirit clenched her fists. “Someone manipulated history.” “Who?” The woman’s face became cold. “A god.” Silence. “A god?” The spirit nodded. “Thousands of years ago, immortals feared Mo Chen’s power.” The silver flowers around them trembled. “They feared that demons and humans would unite.” “They feared losing control.” Lin Yue listened carefully. “So they created a lie.” The woman nodded. “They framed me.” Shock spread through Lin Yue. “The dagger…” “I was forced to use it.” The spirit’s voice cracked. “They threatened to destroy humanity.” Tears appeared in her silver eyes. “So I sacrificed myself.” The realization hit Lin Yue hard. Everything Mo Chen believed. Everything he suffered. Everything he lost. Had been built on a lie. Before she could speak— The sky suddenly cracked. A massive fracture spread across the heavens. The spirit immediately looked up. Alarm filled her face. “No.” A familiar laugh echoed through the world. Cold. Ancient. Hungry. The Devourer. Lin Yue’s blood ran cold. “But Mo Chen destroyed it.” The spirit shook her head. “No.” The laugh grew louder. “You cannot destroy hunger.” The sky shattered. A gigantic eye appeared above them. Larger than before. Darker than before. The Devourer had survived. And it was furious. “You continue to resist.” The eye focused on Lin Yue. “Enough games.” Silver flowers exploded into dust. The entire realm trembled. The spirit immediately moved in front of Lin Yue. “Run.” “What?” “RUN!” Dark tentacles burst from the sky. Hundreds of them. Thousands. The spirit attacked. Silver energy erupted from her body. The heavens shook. For the first time, Lin Yue saw her full power. She wasn’t merely a soul. She was a warrior. A Guardian. An ancient protector. Yet even her power wasn’t enough. The tentacles shattered her attacks. The Devourer’s laughter echoed everywhere. “Pathetic.” The spirit screamed as a tentacle pierced her chest. Blood spilled across the silver flowers. Lin Yue’s eyes widened. “No!” The spirit smiled weakly. “Listen carefully.” “What?” “You must find him.” Lin Yue froze. “Mo Chen?” The spirit nodded. “He’s alive.” Hope exploded inside her. “What?” “The Forbidden Flame didn’t kill him.” The spirit coughed blood. “It sent him somewhere else.” The Devourer’s eye narrowed. “You speak too much.” Another tentacle shot forward. The spirit blocked it. But more followed. Hundreds more. Her body began fading. Breaking apart. “No!” Lin Yue ran toward her. The spirit grabbed her shoulders. Her smile became gentle. Almost sisterly. “The Demon King still needs you.” Tears rolled down Lin Yue’s face. “And you?” The woman laughed softly. “I’ve kept him waiting for three hundred years.” The silver light surrounding her intensified. The Devourer realized what was happening. “No.” For the first time— The monster sounded afraid. The spirit turned toward the eye. Her smile became fierce. “This time…” Power exploded from her body. “…I choose my own ending.” The entire realm lit up. The Devourer screamed. Lin Yue reached forward. “Wait!” The spirit looked at her one final time. “Tell him the truth.” The light consumed everything. BOOM! The silver world shattered. And Lin Yue woke up screaming. Her eyes opened. She was back in Shanghai. Back in the ruined city. Back in reality. Smoke filled the air. Buildings burned. Monsters roamed the streets. But something was different. The spirit was gone. Completely gone. Only a faint silver pendant remained in her hand. A final gift. A final goodbye. Then a voice echoed behind her. A familiar voice. A voice she thought she’d lost forever. “Lin Yue.” Her entire body froze. Slowly… She turned around. And saw Mo Chen standing there. Alive. But not alone. A beautiful woman stood beside him. Holding his hand. End of Episode 6 Cliffhanger: Lin Yue stared in shock. The woman looked exactly like the spirit from her visions. Exactly. The stranger smiled at Mo Chen affectionately before turning to Lin Yue. Then she said the words that shattered Lin Yue’s heart: “Thank you for protecting my husband while I was gone.” To be continued…
