Episode 2: The Demon King’s Protection Lin Yue couldn’t move. Her entire body felt frozen. The shattered window allowed cold wind to rush into the apartment while hundreds of glowing eyes stared from the darkness outside. Monsters. Real monsters. Not dreams. Not hallucinations. Real. And standing beside her was a demon king who claimed she was his bride. “The war has begun.” Mo Chen’s words echoed in her mind. Lin Yue swallowed hard. “What war?” The demon’s crimson eyes remained fixed on the darkness beyond the building. “A war for you.” A chill ran down her spine. “What does that even mean?” Before Mo Chen could answer, a deafening roar erupted from outside. BOOM! The entire apartment building shook violently. People screamed from neighboring apartments. Car alarms began blaring below. Something massive had landed on the roof. Mo Chen narrowed his eyes. “They found us faster than I expected.” Lin Yue’s fear intensified. “Who found us?” Instead of answering, Mo Chen suddenly grabbed her wrist. “What are you doing?” “We’re leaving.” “What?!” The next second— The apartment wall exploded. Concrete flew everywhere. A gigantic claw burst through the building. Lin Yue screamed. The claw belonged to a horrifying creature larger than a bus. Its skin was black. Its body resembled a giant wolf. Hundreds of red eyes covered its flesh. Every eye stared directly at Lin Yue. The monster growled. The sound shook the entire building. “HUMAN BRIDE…” Lin Yue’s blood turned cold. It could talk. The creature pushed its enormous head through the broken wall. Rows of razor-sharp teeth glistened. “DON’T LET HER ESCAPE.” Suddenly dozens of shadow creatures flooded into the apartment. The room became a nightmare. Monsters everywhere. Growling. Hissing. Hungry. Lin Yue stumbled backward. Fear overwhelmed her. Then darkness erupted around Mo Chen. His aura exploded. The apartment trembled. Every monster immediately stopped moving. Their eyes filled with terror. The Demon King finally spoke. One sentence. One command. “Leave.” The word carried unimaginable power. Several creatures instantly disintegrated. Others collapsed onto the floor. The giant wolf screamed. Its massive body trembled. Yet it didn’t retreat. Instead it glared at Mo Chen. “The prophecy belongs to us.” Mo Chen’s expression turned ice cold. “No.” The wolf snarled. “The girl carries the key.” Lin Yue stared. The key? What key? Before she could ask, Mo Chen raised his hand. Black flames appeared. The giant wolf’s eyes widened. Fear replaced its arrogance. “No—” The flames swallowed the creature whole. Its screams echoed across the city. Seconds later— Nothing remained. Not even ashes. The surviving monsters fled immediately. Within moments the apartment became silent. Lin Yue stood frozen. Unable to comprehend what she had just witnessed. Mo Chen looked completely calm. As though destroying monsters was routine. “We need to go.” Lin Yue finally found her voice. “No.” Mo Chen blinked. “No?” “I’m not going anywhere with you.” The Demon King stared at her. For several seconds neither spoke. Then unexpectedly— He laughed. The sound shocked her. She hadn’t expected a demon king to laugh. “You are brave.” “I’m not brave.” “Then you’re foolish.” Lin Yue folded her arms. “You keep saying monsters are after me.” “They are.” “You claim my family sold me to a demon.” “They did.” “You expect me to trust you?” Mo Chen stepped closer. Dangerous. Beautiful. Terrifying. “Trust me?” His eyes glowed. “You misunderstand.” Lin Yue frowned. “What?” “I don’t need your trust.” A shiver ran through her. “I only need you alive.” Before she could respond— The jade pendant around her neck suddenly glowed. Bright red light filled the room. Mo Chen’s expression changed instantly. The amusement disappeared. For the first time, he looked alarmed. “Impossible.” “What is it?” The pendant grew hotter. Hotter. Hotter. Until Lin Yue cried out. Pain shot through her chest. A symbol appeared on her skin. Directly above her heart. An ancient black mark. Mo Chen stared at it. His face darkened. “No…” Lin Yue looked down. “What is this?” The symbol pulsed. Like a heartbeat. Dark energy spread through her veins. The room shook. The windows exploded completely. The sky outside turned crimson. Lightning flashed across the clouds. Mo Chen grabbed her shoulders. “Look at me.” His voice sounded urgent. The mark continued spreading. Lin Yue could barely breathe. “It hurts…” “I know.” Fear filled his eyes. Actual fear. The sight stunned her. “What is happening?” Mo Chen clenched his jaw. “The seal is breaking.” “What seal?” Before he could answer— Lin Yue suddenly saw visions. Thousands of them. Ancient battlefields. Burning cities. Demons. Gods. Monsters. Blood. Death. Screams. And a woman. A beautiful woman wearing a crimson wedding dress. She stood beneath a red moon. Facing Mo Chen. The Demon King looked younger. But his eyes held the same intensity. The woman smiled sadly. Then she whispered something. Lin Yue couldn’t hear it. Moments later— The woman plunged a dagger into her own heart. Blood covered her dress. Mo Chen screamed. The sound shattered the heavens. Lin Yue gasped. The vision vanished. She collapsed onto the floor. Breathing heavily. Mo Chen immediately knelt beside her. “What did you see?” Lin Yue looked at him. Confused. Terrified. “There was a woman.” His expression froze. “What woman?” “She looked like me.” Silence. Absolute silence. Mo Chen slowly stood. His face became unreadable. The realization in his eyes frightened her. “That’s impossible.” Lin Yue rubbed her head. “Who was she?” The Demon King remained quiet. For the first time since meeting him— He seemed shaken. Then a voice suddenly echoed through the room. A female voice. Cold. Ancient. Dangerous. “At last…” Both Lin Yue and Mo Chen looked around. The voice wasn’t coming from outside. It was coming from inside her. “The vessel has awakened.” Lin Yue’s heart nearly stopped. “What was that?” The voice laughed. A haunting laugh. “You belong to me now.” Dark shadows erupted from the mark on Lin Yue’s chest. The apartment shook violently. Mo Chen’s eyes widened. “No.” The shadows formed into the image of a woman. The same woman from the vision. She floated above the floor. Beautiful. Deadly. Her eyes glowed silver. The spirit smiled. “Hello, Mo Chen.” The Demon King’s face turned pale. A reaction Lin Yue never thought possible. “You.” The spirit’s smile widened. “Did you miss me?” Fear crawled through Lin Yue. “Who is she?” Neither answered. The spirit slowly turned toward Lin Yue. Her smile became unsettling. “So this is the girl.” Lin Yue stepped back. “What do you want?” The spirit laughed. “What I want?” Her eyes flashed. “I want my body back.” The room exploded with dark energy. Lin Yue screamed. And the world vanished into darkness.
