"I know, I just wanted to see you," Jake said, leaning in for a kiss.

Lily pulled away, feeling conflicted. "Jake, we need to talk."

Jake's face fell, sensing the seriousness in Lily's tone. "What's going on?"

Taking a deep breath, Lily decided to address the elephant in the room. "It's Sophie. I know about her feelings for you."

Jake looked surprised but quickly tried to brush it off. "It's not a big deal, Lily. I told her I'm with you."

"But she's still pursuing you, Jake," Lily said, frustration evident in her voice. "And I feel like you're not doing anything to stop it."

Jake sighed, running a hand through his hair. "Look, I don't want to hurt Sophie's feelings, but you're the one I want to be with. I thought you trusted me."

"It's not about trust, Jake," Lily countered. "It's about respect. I need to know that you respect our relationship and that you'll set boundaries with Sophie."

Jake looked thoughtful for a moment before nodding. "You're right. I'll talk to Sophie and make it clear that I'm committed to you."

Lily felt a wave of relief wash over her but knew that this was just the beginning. "Thank you, Jake. It means a lot to me."

The next day, Lily received a text from Emma, asking her to meet for lunch. When she arrived at the café, she found Emma looking concerned.

"Have you talked to Jake about Sophie?" Emma asked without preamble.

Lily nodded. "I did. He said he would talk to her."

Emma sighed, playing with her food. "I don't know, Lily. I overheard Sophie talking to Tom, and she's not backing down. She's convinced that she has a chance with Jake."

Lily felt her heart sink. "What am I supposed to do, Emma? I can't force Jake to choose between me and Sophie."

Emma reached across the table, taking Lily's hand. "You're right, you can't. But you need to have an honest conversation with Jake about how this is affecting you and your relationship."

Feeling determined, Lily decided to confront Jake once and for all. That evening, she invited him over to her apartment, preparing herself for a difficult conversation.

When Jake arrived, he could sense the seriousness in the air. "What's going on, Lily?"

Taking a deep breath, Lily began to speak. "Jake, I love you, and I want to be with you. But I need to know that I'm the only one you want. If you can't make that commitment, then maybe we need to reconsider our relationship."

Jake looked taken aback, clearly not expecting such a direct approach. After a moment of silence, he finally spoke. "Lily, you are the one I want to be with. I'll do whatever it takes to prove that to you."

Feeling relieved but cautious, Lily nodded. "I hope so, Jake. Because I don't want to lose what we have."
