Hospital Trip

Today was the day. No not the day for the interview. Melissa was going to confirm the pregnancy at the hospital. She knew she was pregnant. But she wanted to be sure at least. She was going to go with Michael. He was the only person she had. The only person who could offer her real support. The only person she thought highly enough of to share everything with. She had woken up very early. Melissa had taken a day off, telling Adams she needed to make more on field research so that the interview would be a banging one. She took a bath, a long one, trying to destress herself before heading into the lion's den, which was the hospital. Besides, the appointment was at 9:30 am and it was just 6:45 am. Melissa got out of the bath, not bothering with a towel. Unfortunately, Michael was in front of her bedroom, leaning against the wall, waiting for her. Both of them froze as soon as Melissa got out, butt naked. They didn't know what to do and all they could was look at each other while blushing. Melissa reacted first. She ran back to the bathroom and snagged the biggest towel she could find and covered her body with it. Michael, on his part, was sporting a small smile. But he wiped it as soon as Melissa came out with a very big towel covering almost her whole body. "Let's pretend you didn't see that alright? In fact, let's pretend that didn't happen," Melissa said and did not give the opportunity to Michael to give an affirmation or anything. She walked into the room and shut the door. About fifteen minutes later, which was record time for her, Melissa was out of the room. She was putting on a black jumpsuit and simple flats. She picked her bag and reached the living room where Michael was sitting and waiting patiently on the couch. "Can we leave now?" Michael asked, looking at Melissa appreciatively. Melissa didn't pay him any mind. No, actually, she didn't think there was anything to be alarmed about. He held her by the small of her back and led her outside. They locked the door and got into the elevator. The ride was silent. Melissa was thoughtful and Michael was feeling guilty. He almost felt like he did not have the right to accompany her to the hospital, and he still felt guilty over the fact that he still hadn't told Melissa he knew who the father of her baby was. They got out of the elevator and smiled at each other, then headed to Michael's car, a black Maserati and they got in. Melissa was especially excited. Michael had bought the car recently and she hadn't gotten the time to get in with him yet. "Finally!!" she exclaimed, patting the seats in excitement, and looking over at Michael. Michael smiled, a fond smile. He couldn't find it in himself to be mad at Melissa. She just was too adorable. And beautiful. She was everything he desired and more. "You're not going to start the car?" Melissa asked, confused when both of them had out their seatbelts on and Michael hadn't left yet. "Oh!" he exclaimed awkwardly then started the car and went towards the hospital. The hospital was a twenty minute ride from Melissa's house and the traffic wasn't going to be a lot at that time. So maybe they were going to reach earlier than they thought. "Michael, guess what?" Melissa exclaimed exuberantly. Michael was one of her only and true friends. So she told him practically everything. Everything. "What? You fought Betty? Adams fired her?" Michael asked with a teasing smile and Melissa frowned playfully. "I'm asking a real question," Melissa growled playfully, slapping Michael's thigh lightly. Michael's eyes lingered on the place she had touched then he took them back to the road, a small smile crossing his lips then disappearing as soon as it had appeared. "Tell me," Michael ordered and Melissa raise a brow. She knew she was the one to be anxious about telling him whatever tea she had to spill. But she loved bothering Michael. He was her best friend anyways. If she didn't bother him, who was going to. "Please," he added when Melissa's glare turned sharp and she laughed out loud, proud that she had gotten her way once again. "So, I told you bout my promotion, right?" she asked, then didn't even wait for his answer and continued. "I have to interview someone so great, oh my God. I almost died when they told me who I was going to interview" "Who's that?" Michael asked hesitantly, praying it wasn't who he thought he was. "Aiden Vault." Michael groaned and Melissa frowned. What was wrong? Wasn't he happy for her? "So that's the only reaction you can give me? After the bomb I just dropped on you," Melissa said crossly, looking at Michael and folding her arms expectantly. "I'm sorry.. I'm happy for you Melissa. I'm so happy. You're accomplishing your dreams. Finally," Michael said honestly and Melissa smiled. "Thank you so much baby. And you've helped a lot. If I didn't rant to you, I don't know who else I would rant to. I love you Michael," Melissa said and laughed when she saw the tint of blush on Michael's chicks. "I love you too princess," Michael replied. Soon enough, they had arrived their destination. Michael parked the car carefully and they got out and walked towards the reception. About thirty minutes later, the doctor was ready to receive them "Ma'am, what did you say what your problem?" the doctor asked again, staring at the people she presumed was a couple. "I took pregnancy tests. Four out if five and I'm here to confirm," Melissa said, smiling at the doctor, who was a woman thankfully. "Okay miss. Please lay down. And I'll set everything up," she said the walked out of the room. Melissa stared at Michael who was far way in his thoughts. "Hey. What are you thinking about?" Melissa asked shaking Michael out of his reverie. Michael shook his head at her and smiled. He definitely couldn't tell her what was bothering him. If he did, perhaps she might go to the extent of not talking to him. And that was going to kill him. So for now, he was going to keep it to himself Melissa on the other hand was staring at the ceiling. She was thinking if how she was going to raise the child alone, how she was going to be the mother and the father at the same time. She sighed and waited for the doctor to come back in. Now was the time to conclude, a conclusion she was already even aware of.
