CHAPTER 2

Elira's POV: I walked tentatively towards his desk as I stood in front of my father. Good afternoon father. You wanted to see me? As I stood before my father's desk, I could feel the tension in the air. My heart raced with anticipation, wondering what this unexpected summons could be about. My father's wife, Margaret, and her daughter, Hanna, sat on the couch, their eyes fixed on me with an unnerving intensity. "Elira, we need to talk," my father began, his voice firm but laced with a hint of nervousness. I nodded, my mind racing with possibilities. What could this be about? Had I done something wrong at work? Was it about my mother's condition? "Sit down, Elira," Margaret chimed in, her voice dripping with sweetness, but I knew better. I hesitated for a moment before taking a seat in the chair in front of my father's desk. "What's going on?" I asked, trying to keep my voice steady. My father cleared his throat before speaking. Elira, you know how difficult things have been for the company lately. We're on the verge of bankruptcy, and I've been trying to find ways to save it. I nodded, aware of the struggles the company had been facing. My mother had always been the driving force behind Jackson's Corporations, and her absence had left a significant void. "Well, I've found a solution," my father continued. "Aleczander Ravelli, the billionaire tycoon, has agreed to invest in the company and save it from bankruptcy." I felt a surge of relief wash over me. This was the best news I had heard in a long time. "But there's a catch," Hanna chimed in, her voice dripping with malice. "He wants to marry you, Elira." My world came crashing down around me. Marry a stranger? It was absurd. I couldn't believe what I was hearing. "What? No, that's impossible, I stammered, trying to process this outrageous proposal. Margaret leaned forward, her eyes gleaming with excitement. It's a great opportunity, Elira. You'll be saving the company, and you'll be marrying a very wealthy and influential man. You just have to marry him so he saves the company from bankruptcy, then we can have enough money to continue your mother's treatment. Or you could walk away and find another way to pay her bills and watch everything crumble. And darling, make your choice wisely. I shook my head, trying to clear the cobwebs. This was madness. I couldn't just marry someone I had never met, no matter how wealthy or influential he was. "But what about my mother?" I asked, trying to stall for time. She's the one who built this company. She's the one who should be making decisions, not me. My father's expression turned cold, and I knew I had struck a nerve. Your mother is no longer in a position to make decisions, Elira. She's been in a coma for years, and it's time we faced reality. You're the only one who can save the company now. I felt a pang of guilt and sadness wash over me. I knew my mother's condition was dire, but I had always held onto hope that she would recover. Come on and make a decision already. I could have done it, but then I can't marry a cripple. The wedding is tomorrow. Hanna said nonchalantly. I looked at her with shock, but she wasn't even focused on me, she was busy staring at her manicured nails. To... Tomorrow. Cr... Crippled. I stuttered. Yes, now stop looking like a lost puppy and decide. I have a spa treatment to get to." Margaret stated. As I sat there, trying to process this unexpected proposal, I couldn't help but think about my mother. She has always been my rock, my confidante. She had taught me everything I knew, and I owed her everything. And that's when it hit me - I had to do this. I took a deep breath and nodded reluctantly, knowing I had no choice. "Okay, I'll do it," I said, my voice barely above a whisper. My father's face lit up with a smile, and Margaret and Hanna exchanged a triumphant glance. "Excellent choice, Elira," my father said, his voice filled with relief. I'll arrange for the wedding to take place as soon as possible. You'll be saving the company, and you'll be marrying a great man. I felt a shiver run down my spine as I stood up to leave. I couldn't believe what I had just agreed to. Marrying a stranger, a man I knew nothing about. I felt like I was walking into a nightmare. As I retired to my room, my mind raced with thoughts of the impending marriage. I couldn't shake off the feeling of unease that had settled in my stomach. I decided to Google Aleczander Ravelli, hoping to find some information about the man I was about to marry. As I scrolled through the search results, I was amazed at his achievements. He was a self-made billionaire, with a reputation for being ruthless in business. He had built his empire from scratch, and his success story was inspiring. But what struck me was the lack of personal information about him. There were no pictures, no interviews, no insight into his personal life. The only recent news was about his health, stating that he was confined to a wheelchair. I also stumbled upon some old tabloid articles, revealing a shocking truth. Aleczander Ravelli was the illegitimate son of the Ravelli family, disowned by his own family. But he had made a name for himself, rising from the ashes like a phoenix. I couldn't help but wonder what had driven him to succeed despite all odds. As I read through the articles, my mind raced with questions. What kind of man was Aleczander Ravelli? What had driven him to succeed despite all odds? And what kind of husband would he be? I couldn't help but wonder if I had made a mistake by agreeing to marry him. But it was too late now. I had given my word, and I couldn't back out. I had to go through with the marriage, no matter how daunting it seemed. I sighed and closed my laptop, feeling a sense of resignation wash over me. As I lay in bed, my mind refused to shut off. I couldn't stop thinking about Aleczander Ravelli, wondering what he looked like, what his voice sounded like, and what his personality was like. I couldn't help but feel like I was walking into the unknown, and it terrified me. Eventually, exhaustion took over, and I fell asleep, my mind still reeling with thoughts of my soon-to-be husband. Little did I know that my life was about to change in ways I never imagined. The next morning, I woke up feeling groggy and tired. I knew I had to face the day ahead, but I wasn't looking forward to it. I got dressed and went downstairs, hoping to find some solace in breakfast. But as I entered the dining room, I saw my father, Margaret, and Hanna already seated, their faces filled with excitement. "Good morning, Elira," my father said, his voice cheerful. Today's the day we finalize the wedding plans. Aleczander Ravelli's representative will be arriving soon to discuss the details. I felt a knot form in my stomach as I took my seat. I couldn't believe this was happening. I was getting married to a stranger, and I had no idea what the future held. But I knew I had to go through with it, no matter how daunting it seemed. I took a deep breath and prepared myself for the day ahead, knowing that my life was about to change forever. (What do you think?)
