Chapter Nine

1456 Words

Chapter NineLamont Estes had been invited to the Piedmont estate that evening. It was his first visit to the sprawling property, but the occasion was far less than enjoyable. Lamont phoned Piedmont immediately after reading Peter Ruggiero's article and demanded a meeting. A go-between contacted him shortly afterward and informed him that one of Piedmont's drivers would come for him. There was a bit of apprehension on his part, but Lamont's indignation overcame it. He realized that he was in a precarious position, one that he had been guaranteed he would not find himself in. The long ride was somewhat sobering as the black Lincoln Continental cruised down the highway from Manhattan to Brooklyn. Lamont considered the fact that he should have told someone of his trip as an insurance measure.
