Chapter ElevenRita Hunt arrived at the Brooks mansion shortly after nine PM that evening. It had been three weeks since the bombing at Police Plaza, the second most deadly terror attack in NYC history. She had given Sabrina Brooks plenty of distance, calling almost daily but choosing not to invite herself over. After all this time had passed, she felt she owed it to Sabrina as her best friend to come by and see how she was faring.
The taxi left her off at the front gate, and Rita found it unlocked as usual. She opened the wrought iron gateway and closed it behind her, following the paved walk to the thick oaken door. She pressed the doorbell and heard it chime, then tried the knob and found it open. She called Sabrina's name as she let herself in and headed for the spacious parlor.
