Chapter ThirteenThe Towering Inferno The thirty-five story building on Fifth Avenue in Harlem was largely occupied by African-Americans, though that was where the demographic similarity ended. The residents came from all walks of life: families lived on floors alongside the elderly and retired, students, young professionals and welfare recipients.
