“What the hell!” Morris yelled. “You can’t do that!”
“I just did,” he said simply. “You know what I just did, Miss Andrews? I found some injured people up there. Injured firefighters. People ready to give their lives to save others. And when I got up there, I had to make a choice: save a man who had his chest crushed. He wasn’t going to make it. His name was Brian. I know that because before she passed out, the other firefighter begged me to save him instead of her. But I didn’t listen to her. I grabbed her and pulled her out of that flaming wreckage and left him to die. I made a choice: I chose to let someone die.
