CHAPTER 64 The next morning, Ruby sat with her coffee in the hospital cafeteria. It was early enough the workers were just starting to trickle in. The sun would be up soon. Her first sunrise without Jessi. Ruby had talked to the nurses. They didn’t know where Mace was. Nobody had seen him since last night. It was no surprise. Mace couldn’t be expected to handle any of this. The hospital staff wanted Ruby to make arrangements, but it wasn’t her job. She had to drop her pretense and explain she wasn’t really Jessi’s sister-in-law. Nobody gave her a hard time for lying.
