It took all her energy, but Ruby finally managed to throw Mace out of the bathroom while she cleaned herself up. She hadn’t meant to lose her temper at him. Not here. Not like that.
But it was just as well. That boy had to grow up sometime. With his sister in the burn ward and not even guaranteed to survive the night, it may as well be now.
Her phone beeped. Good. She’d take any excuse she could get to wait in here before she had to face Mace again. What was he doing, stomping into the women’s bathroom like that in the first place?
She glanced at her message.
You need a place to stay for the night? I can help you find a room.
Elliot was so thoughtful. If she had met someone like him years ago, maybe she would have realized how pathetic her relationship with Mace had grown.
