After waking up my alarm clock and getting my mom up for work, I headed to the bus stop. Today was the start of a new year at Winter school, home to all the magical creatures anyone could think of. Therefore many people wondered how I got into it; some say it was because I slept with a higher-up (wrong), some say it was because my mom paid off someone(wrong again), and some said it was because of my friends (Not true, since Gwen was just starting at the school and Wren wouldn’t use her power that way), others said it was because of my father (which I don’t know because the said man left my mom once he found out she was carrying me).
No, the real reason I got to go is that I’m fey touched. Which is a magic term that means that I was blessed (or cursed in some cases) with the magic abilities that fey gave me. Though I got magical powers, I’m still what those in the magical community believe is a faker. I don’t have the blood that others have or was changed by a ritual. I’m just a human who got blessed by fairies who might have been drunk.
My blessing also means that, unlike others in my school, I need to ride the bus. I wasn’t the only magic user to ride it, but I was the only one who seemed to be the main attraction for bullies. True, I could tell my friends about them. I would like to my bullies face off against Wren’s wolf Tempest and Gwen’s older brothers. Yet I didn’t want my friends to get hurt, they would protect me and get in trouble with me, but I did draw the line.
“Why isn’t it the fey.” I heard a voice say as I looked up from the book I was reading.
“Hello, Maia.”
Maia Dame is the eldest daughter of the Moon pack’s beta and is rumored to be the next Luna of her pack. A bottled blond with blue eyes and a fake tan, I often wondered why everyone fell at her feet. Wren often said that if Maia had one ounce of grace in personality as she had in looks, then she would be an okay Luna, but as the blond was now, Wren predicted that the Moon pack’s days were numbered.
“I didn’t think I permitted you to say my name. The Nordic pack doesn’t train you, humans, right?”
I gripped my book tighter; I knew she wanted to bait me by bringing up my friends. I was okay to be picked on by picking on my friends? No, you are going to die a slow and painful death. I was about to answer when another voice filled the air with a growl.
“Leave her alone.” We all turned around to see a new student.
The new student was a 6ft tall hunk with emerald green eyes and dark brown hair. He also had a body of God, at least what I could see if it wasn’t covered in a pair of blue jeans and a t-shirt. His eyes were still on Maia; she huffed and sat back down. He then turned his eyes on me.
“Are you alright?”
“I’m fine. You didn’t have to help, though….”
“I know; something tells me you have a powerful spirit. I was just raised that women should be protected.”
“Oh,” I replied with a frown.
“What’s the matter?”
“I guess you’re one of those prince charming types, I’m sorry, but I’m not the maiden in distress,” I replied, looking away.
“I didn’t say you were….”
“No, but you felt like I am.”
“Let’s start over; I’m Tony Vargas.” He reached out his hand to mine.
“Emily Jones, nice to meet you.”
