Zamira
I paced restlessly in my quarters.
The guard who stood there looked terrified, and he should be.
I clenched my fists so hard, my nails began digging into my flesh.
"What the hell do you mean she escaped?
How did she escape?"
"I don't know, my lady," he said, his head bowed, not meeting my gaze.
And I was so furious, I wanted to rip someone's head off.
"Do you know how useless you are?
You are so f*****g stupid.
You had one simple task.
Make sure she doesn't survive.
How hard could that be?"
"Someone saved her," he said, stuttering every single word.
"Who was that someone?"
"I don't know, my lady, but he was dressed in a black cloak, and his face was covered.
We chased her through the woods, and he fought us relentlessly.
I do not know who he is, but, my lady, he is very skilled and very dangerous."
"Hmm," I said, still pacing.
Who exactly could it be that saved Vaelora?
Because I knew she had nobody.
Her brother was gone.
So was her father.
So who exactly could it be?
Or did her family have allies that we didn't know about?
I shook my head, laughing to myself, because that family was not just weak.
They were so f*****g pathetic, and everything about them was just goddamn irritating.
Thinking about her, thinking about how obsessed Alaric was with her, it angered me even more.
"Get out," I screamed.
"Get the f**k out.
I need results.
If you are not getting me results, do not f*****g come back here.
And by morning, I am going to have your freaking head."
He rushed out without another word, and I was left horrified and angry and everything in between.
That was how I was feeling because I could not pinpoint exactly the emotion I was going through right now.
How could she have survived?
It wasn't like she was that skilled.
She had no skill.
How was it possible?
And who the hell could have saved her?
I sat back down on the bed, and I just told myself to breathe because I was the one freaking out about all of this.
It wasn't such a big deal.
She was injured.
Of course, they would have injured her, so she wouldn't have gone far.
She would have bled to death, and some wild creature from somewhere would have devoured her body.
And that was exactly what I wanted.
Thinking about her just lying lifeless on the ground, begging for her precious Alaric to come save her, made me smile.
He was mine, and he was always going to be mine.
I had Alaric wrapped around my finger, and he would do exactly as I said.
"Zamira."
I heard my name immediately.
My eyes scanned the entire room.
It was empty.
But I knew exactly who was calling.
I didn't move.
I didn't show fear.
I just clenched my fists harder at my sides.
"Show yourself, Malakai," I commanded.
And he did.
He stood directly in front of me, dressed in all black.
He slowly took off the cape that covered his body. It also covered half his face, and he just stared at me with a smile.
"I felt how nervous you were, so I decided to pop in.
I know you need me."
"No, I don't," I said, lying, because I actually did need him.
"You know, you are very beautiful when you act all tough, like you don't need anybody, when everyone clearly knows you need somebody."
"Zamira," he said, my name, his voice deep.
No matter how I tried to act calm and composed, he scared the living daylight out of me.
He was now inches away from my face.
"Where is my prize?" he asked.
Immediately, I closed my eyes because I couldn't stare into his.
It felt like I could see all the souls he had destroyed, begging to be free.
"She was supposed to be killed and offered to you.
But guess what?" I said, annoyed and irritated.
"The stupid guards lost her."
I watched as the color drained from his face.
"What do you mean they lost her?"
"She rode into the woods with some invisible stranger or whatever."
"No!" he screamed.
"No, that wasn't the plan.
That wasn't what we discussed.
You were supposed to offer her to me."
"I know," I said quickly.
"But plans have changed, Malakai.
I need you to find her and kill her, if she is still alive."
"So there is a possibility that she might be dead?"
"Yes," I replied.
"But there is still a higher chance that she is alive.
Find her.
Kill her.
And once my position as Luna is secured, believe me, you are going to be running the Bloodfang Pack."
"Is that a promise?"
"Of course it is.
Remember, you keep to your word, and I keep to mine."
"Of course," he replied.
With a snap of his finger, Malakai disappeared into the darkness, and once again I was left alone in my room, but this time I wasn't feeling restless or anything like that. I couldn't help myself from smiling, actually, because if anyone would be able to find Vaelora if she had survived, it was going to be Malakai. He could smell when somebody was hiding six feet underground, and one thing was certain: he was going to make her death very, very painful. And thinking about that made me feel even more satisfied.
I walked to the table at the side of my room. Wine was placed on it, and I wasn't much of a drinker, but everything that actually happened today deserved celebration, except for the fact that that little thing escaped. But nevertheless, she was going to pay with her life, and that was the most important thing.
I poured myself a cup, and I just took a sip out of it. Soon I was going to be Luna, and everything I had ever wanted would be mine.
Mine...
Mine...
Mine...
All mine.
