Chapter7: The stranger

1019 Words
Vaelora I didn't know why I was so stupid, believing that maybe, just maybe, there had to be a good explanation for what he did. Even though the severing of the mate bond almost killed me, even though I had just lost the last bit of family I had left all in one day, in my head I was still trying to make excuses for this man because I loved him. And seeing him here tonight, I felt like he was actually going to give me the explanation I deserved because even though I didn't deserve his respect or his love, he owed me that explanation. And hearing all the trash come out of his mouth made me want to rip his head off his neck. He never deserved me, and I was so dumb and extremely desperate that I couldn't see that. I was so blind that I believed everything he did for me was out of love. He only did it because he wanted to use it to humiliate me, and it worked out perfectly for him. I clenched my fists so tightly. All the sadness I was feeling inside of me was slowly turning into something... It wasn't rage. No, rage wasn't the proper word to describe what was happening to me. I didn't understand what it was. It was overwhelming. It was like nothing I had ever felt before. I looked at both my hands that were clenched so tightly by my sides. My nails were literally digging into my skin. And they were glowing... "What?" I said to myself, surprised, because what the hell was actually this? I quickly lifted them and just admired them. They glowed so brightly in the dark. I didn't know how I knew what I was doing, but the moment I slammed both hands down on the ground beside me, it did something catastrophic. The entire ground began shaking under me, and immediately I became afraid. But it felt like there was something inside of me that was controlling me because everything happening right now felt like something was just using my body. None of it was me. I stood up slowly and ripped half the gown I had on. The fabric was extremely strong. How exactly I just did any of this kept baffling me. The walls around the dungeon had broken down, and I just walked out of there. Alaric was buried under a pile of gravel. I felt him trying to claw his way out, and for a couple of minutes, I didn't move. I just enjoyed the sight. That was when whatever had just happened to me disappeared. My hands were no longer glowing, and the surge of energy I felt that made me feel so powerful, all of it was gone. I ran. As fast as my legs could carry me, that was how I ran. I moved through the woods. I could hear the troops already beginning to look for me, but I knew these woods like the back of my hand. And even if I stayed in a particular spot, it would take them time to find me. But I didn't have time to play hide-and-seek because I had seen the wickedness of the man I was supposedly going to spend the rest of my life with, and I didn't want to be here anymore. So I began running as fast as my legs could carry me. That was how I moved. The moon was slowly beginning to get swallowed by the sky, and everywhere became pitch-black. I wasn't sure where the hell I was going, but I didn't care. Wherever took me away from this place was where I needed to be because I was never going to come back. I had nothing left there. And what hurt me the most was the fact that my brother's and my father's bodies were lying outside my house right now, and I couldn't do anything about it. The people who were responsible, I couldn't make them pay. I hid behind a tree when I heard the sound of horses. They were looking for me. I placed a gentle hand on my chest, trying to calm myself down because my breathing was uneven, and everything right now was just too overwhelming. I stayed there for close to ten minutes. Then I got up again, looking around, making sure everywhere was clear. I looked up at the sky again. The tall trees blanketed the sky above me, making everything even darker. Just when I thought things couldn't get any worse, they did. I kept running, blisters filling my legs, but I didn't stop. I couldn't. I passed by a small pond of water, and immediately I turned around. I rushed there and lowered myself, immediately drinking enough water to sustain myself for the next mile I was about to run. That was when I heard another horse speeding toward my direction. But... This horse was different from the ones that were chasing me. This was actually a white stallion and not the black ones the pack usually used. I felt my heart drop to my stomach because who was this person? And why exactly was someone in these woods this late? Either you had a death sentence, or you were just plain stupid because these woods were so dangerous, and everyone knew it. By this time, the rogue wolves came out to play, and you did not want to be here when they came. "Get on," I heard a deep, scary voice. It was the person riding the horse. I didn't move from where I was standing. "They are going to get you, and you are not going to be lucky again. Get on if you want to live." I didn't know what got over me, but I didn't even question whoever the stranger was. I just got on his horse, and he rode into the night like a psycho. I was not sure where he was taking me, but being with him right now felt like the safest I was ever going to be.
