Chapter 5: The prisoner

1030 Words
Vaelora "Make it stop!" I screamed, begging, but the night was quiet. I was the only one there in the forest. Nobody came to save me. Nobody cared. I pushed myself off the ground, only to fall back on it again. I begged the Moon Goddess to take away this pain, but with every passing moment, the pain became more excruciating. At first, the bleeding started from my nose, and then it moved to my eyes. The pain was too much. I watched as all the memories Alaric and I shared just vanished into nothing. The memories that held so much value to me were now just nothing. It was like something very priceless had just been taken away from me, and all I wanted was to keep it. I stayed on the ground, crying, screaming. It was too much. It was too much. All of it was too much. I would rather pull out my hair one chunk at a time than continue experiencing this. I couldn't breathe. And yet, the Moon Goddess was so wicked. She didn't come to my aid. I had heard stories about people praying to the Moon Goddess in the past, and she would appear to them. Wasn't this a justifiable case for her to appear to me and help me? For her to take all of this away? But then again, I was cursed, and maybe she also thought I was cursed. That was why she didn't want to have anything to do with me. I pushed myself off the ground again, this time hanging on by a literal thread. I forced myself to move one step at a time until I finally got home. Immediately I reached my house. With the last bit of strength in me, I pushed the door open, and I just crawled on my knees upstairs. When I got to my room, I couldn't even force myself to climb onto the bed. For hours, I stayed there on the ground, trying so hard not to cry but failing miserably. "Alaric, what did I ever do to you?" I said into the darkness. "What wrong did I do by loving you with all of me?" I took off the necklace I had on, and I flung it halfway across my room. I loosened my hair. I took off every single piece of jewelry that was on my body, but I could not bring myself to take off the dress. It was too heavy, and it felt like if I took it off, it would be the last thing I had of him, and I didn't want to get rid of it. Suddenly, I began seeing light from outside my window. "What the hell?" I said as I forced myself to go see what the f**k it was. And I found my house on fire. It was literally burning to the ground. "Oh my God!" I screamed, and the fire was spreading so fast. I tried rushing toward the door to leave my room, but all of a sudden, I was paralyzed. I began hearing the sounds of what seemed like soldiers outside my house. And for a split second, I felt relieved. Maybe they had seen it from afar and had come to help. But I was so wrong because they barged into my room, and instead of carrying me out, they pulled me by the hair down the stairs and outside the house. The pain was unbearable. I screamed, but they didn't stop. My brother and my dad—we were all tied in chains, sitting in front of the only home I had ever known, watching it burn. "What is happening?" my father asked, looking around, but no one said a thing. They just stood there and watched as the house burned. I screamed and begged for them to do something, but no one did anything. Then my father was pulled by the chain, and in front of me and my brother, I watched as the general dug his hand into my father's chest. Right in front of me, I watched my father's body fall to the ground, his heart in the hand of a man who looked like the devil himself. Kael screamed, trying to free himself, trying to do something, anything. But the same thing happened to him. Both my brother and my father died in front of me, and I couldn't bring myself to say a single thing. I just sat there, completely overwhelmed with fear. I was screaming inside, but no words came out of my mouth. "Take her," the man who had just taken the lives of the only two people who actually cared about me in this entire world said, and two guards walked to where I was. They lifted me off the ground like I weighed nothing. I was so afraid to speak. I was so afraid to even breathe because I didn't know what was going to happen to me. They threw me into a carriage, my entire hands and legs bound in chains like I was some criminal or I had done something so unforgivable. I still couldn't say a single thing as the carriage moved. I looked outside the window only to find my brother's and my father's corpses lying there, my house completely burned. Tears rushed down my cheeks even more, but I didn't make a single sound. Why did this have to happen to me? My heart was so heavy. "Why?" I thought to myself over and over again. But one thing that made me feel a little sense of hope was maybe my death would be quicker because right now I didn't want to be alive. What the hell was I existing for? We got to... a place I couldn't recognize. It was dark, smelly, just unbelievably irritating. The two guys who had carried me off the ground were the same guards who threw me inside there. Their laughter filled the air, and all I could do was scream. I finally found my voice, but it was useless because the giant metal doors slammed shut in front of me. I was now a prisoner.
