My skin was cold but what was new?
My body was completely naked except for a pare of red silk boxer briefs covering my midsection.
The coverlets of my black satin comforter were askewed and moving up and down in rhythmic beats. I was encased in the sheet, blankets pushed aside. The person sharing my bed beside me was out cold. How the hell I had gotten into my bed, I had no memory.
The only thing I could recall was her warm brown eyes looking into mine. The vast valley of trees and flowers surrounding us, her loving arms wrapped around my body.
Alexandria, I distinctly reached for the warm body lying beside me. Her sleeping form barley moving , her chest rising and falling with the beat of her heart. Her warm blond hair was spread out against her pillow, curls falling down the side of the mattress.
She was definitely not my Alexia, but she was very lovely all the same. Her face was flushed with worry, she wasn't having a pleasant rest, and her lips were pressed firmly in a tight frown.
I softly brushed my fingers against her cheek. Her form moved for all but a second but then grew motionless. I then brushed my hand through her hair ever so gently until her eye lids flew open.
A warm smile grew across her face, the worry that she had had in her sleep virtually diminished. All that remained was a sleep filled smile. Half asleep half awake, she was barley conscious.
" Elias, your awake? You ." She let out a long yawn, her blue eyes closed and then reopened, this time wide and alert. She practically jumped out of bed, her hands gripping onto mine tightly.
" Oh my gosh, Elias, your awake! " Gina was at first only worried but then filled with remorse.
" Do you even realize, how worried I was? This time was alot worse then the last. You were asleep for three days. " Her eyes got bigger until shock shot through her.
" I sat by your side, the whole time, I barely ate, gosh, I haven't even showered. "
Her grip loosen as a hand jutted right out against my thigh. She slapped me, leaving a sting and red mark behind, in the shape of her hand.
" What the hell Grey ? " I grasped a pillow firmly in my hands and threw it directly in the direction of her face.
It missed and got her in the chest instead.
" You can't do that to me again Eli, that was bullshit, not knowing if my best friend was ever going to wake up again. I blame myself totally, if my damned sister hadn't come!"
The anger that was starting to bubble to the surface, descended back where it had came, instead a feeling of understanding followed in it's wake.
" Thank you, Grey! " Is all I could say. Still laying on the bed using my elbow to prop myself up, I looked up at the girl kneeling on the edge of the bed. Her once silky blond hair was in tangles and her overly large button down burgundy red gown was wrinkled. She looked like a wreck but the cool exterior she always held still remained.
" I don't remember much about what happened."
I tried replaying the evening in my head over and over but the only thing I could briefly recall is bits and pieces.
There was lots of noise, Gina and Rachel were arguing, and well then I ended up passing out on the floor, like a damn weakling.
Shifting my weight onto my hips, I used my arms to push myself up into a seated position and climbed off the bed.
" So I was out for three days? I did infact drink, right I mean otherwise I wouldn't be standing here now ? ". Reaching across the bedframe I found a burgundy t-shirt folded up with a pair of blue jeans. Pulling my head the cotton fabric, I found Grey standing before me.
Her hands were on her hips, her expression unchanging. She watched as I pulled on my jeans and then mentioned the the series of events, that happened while I was incapacitated.
" You were loosing consciousness about the time I held you head on my lap. " She looking weary her somber eyes turned to the floor.
" You were acting erratic, like you almost didn't know me, my touch was burning you. Blood was seeming from your pores, it was pretty awful. " Gina pulled her long blond rats into a messy bun and continued.
" I .... I don't know how to tell you this, especially with a straight face but ..." Her words lingered on but for a minute, while in heavy concentration. " I didn't use your emergency supply in the freezer. It would have taken too long to defrost, there just wasn't any time."
Gina stepped back a few steps until the top of her legs met the back of the mattress and she sat down.
Turning my body to meet, her eyes , I was not sure where this conversation was heading.
" So, my sister, she got you the blood!"
Gina patted my leg, her eyes still on the direction of the hardwood floor.
" Okay, " I replied, pulling a hand through my frizzy dark hair.
" So? that's not a big deal I guess. Where did she get it?" My dimple appeared on my right cheek, not from a smile but from admiration. Grey and her sister had done far too much that night and I was very grateful.
Gina tapped her feet against the floor, her toes barely touching. Nervously, she raised her face twords me.
" Your not going to like this, but our father, you know, umm he got you the blood. Father never gives anything without something in return." Her eyes darted back to the floor, her shoulders feel forward and her breathing became fast.
" I am so sorry Elias but my sister had to take a vial of your blood in exchange for the glass bottle. I didn't have a choice! Blood for blood, were my father's conditions. "
Gina stood up then, turning her back away from me.
I didn't know what to say at first, I mean I couldn't say I was angry. I was more concerned that she would make such a bargain with the Lord of hell. Who does that ? Making a deal with the devil never ended well in books or movies. I doubted it would end well in this situation either.
Bracing herself Gina turned around waiting for the worst to come but I didn't plan on yelling at her, I wasn't angry, just concerned.
Letting out a long breath of air I was holding in my throat I approached Grey.
" Okay, So he has some of my blood, what's the worst that could happen? My blood has healing properties in it, it can't bring back the dead or anything. " I shrugged my shoulders and tossed back my head in frustration.
" It's only the devil ! " I raised my voice a few octaves and smacked my legs with the palms of my hands.
" s**t, if you want, I'll even accompany you to visit your mother and I could always meet dear old dad. Try to see what his plans are perhaps! I mean, would love to hear his side of the story on how he fell or what happened after." My eyes focused on Grey light blues, a reflection of my own danced within them.
" That's not a good question to ask him, once he get started, he'd never shut up about it. It's always the same thing, " Father pushed me over the edge of heaven." blah blah blah, she continued, " The story is as old as time and drives me to want to bang my head against a concrete wall, just so I can some peace from his, constant whining . " Gina grabbed a hand full of hair and pulled, pretending to pull out handfuls.
" He drives me nuts ! Either fix it with your father or move the f**k, on already, you know what I am saying." Her nails dug into my arm making red indentions into my skin. I calmly removed her claws from my appendage and tried to put in a word or two before she could continue further.
" Okay I get it Grey, it is just there is this man and how he tells the tale , intrigued me. I would like to hear it from both sides, see if they meet up in the middle, you know? "
