A glimpse into a Dark Place

1156 Words
The lands were charred, wethered, and broken. Flames were all around her, she could feel heat rising from below her feet. She was completely naked, bruises covered her from head to toe. It was hard to breathe, clouds of black soot filled the air as bits of ash rained down like snow flakes. The fowl smell of rot made her stomach clench and she had to fight back the urge to gag. The trees that remained among the flames were blackened. She assumed if she'd pressed only a finger to what was left of the bark, only ash would remain. Building were broken and abandoned. Very few windows remained as most had been blow out. Glass and warped metal were hanging like ornaments on a Christmas tree. Although she can never picture a Christmas full of decay and death. This would be a perfect setting for a horror movie or possibly a nuclear bomb site. A tall barbed wire fence completely surrounded the dead city. Sharp steel spikes topped the wire wrapping the barbwire to the seams. It looked like it could cut right through bone, and she didn't plan on finding out. Half torn down buildings lined the streets. Sounds of creaking and metal scraping alerted her as she watched pieces of rumble falling from the sky onto the red sandy roads below. Her feet burned, it was so hot, it made her feet sting. It felt like a summer in DC with no shoes, except this wasn't pavement, it was just dirt and sharp stone. Where were all the people? Was she all alone amongst all this devastation and destruction? Hell, if this was it, was an awful deserted place, unless hell was different for everyone? One of her greatest fears was to be utterly alone. It would be horrible to find out that everything she had done in her life, would lead up to this! How could she have wound up in a place so freaking depressing? It reminded her of a cross between Mars and Hell or what someone might interpret a place like that to be. She didn't know where she was going or how far she was supposed to walk, she just knew she couldn't stop. She did know one thing, this place was no where she wanted to be and she wanted to be anywhere but here. The word terrified was an understatement, she was horrified. Her hair was falling out and her skin peeling from being scorched from the sun, which seemed low in the sky and the color of blood. Her flaming red dyed hair lost all it's pigment and was now a pale blond. Her eyes were stinging from the smoke and she looked like death incarnate. This dream was the worst she ever had, one minute she was laying in the strong arms of her Dark lover and the next she was naked and afraid in a desert of literal hell. What was this place and where the hell was Nikolai? How could he just abandon her here ? That sadistic bastard!!!!!! How dare he treat her this way ! Maybe this place was a made-up fantasy, derived from, a drugged up eluded nightmare, or it was totally bull crap. Thirst was starting set in, what seems like hours were only mins but where this was time stood still. Her feet were blistering and her mouth chapped but all she could do is continue walking. If she could have just one sip of water, it might ease the fire which was burning threatening to totally consume her. Her feet were barley moving now, the blisters were to the point where they were bursting. The pain was unbearable but she dare not cry, it would only make things worse and none would hear her tears. When will this damned dream ever end ? She tried pitching herself a few times and even punching herself in the chest, several times. No such luck, she wasn't waking up from this ridiculous drugged out vision, or whatever the hell it was. The road went on for miles it seemed but she never got anywhere. It was like she was caught in a loop that was perpetual. Wtf ! The broken city never ended it went on for miles. The further she got, the stronger the ashes fell, until all the light given off from the sun was blocked. She gasped for air, her lungs heaved and jerked. She had never felt death before but if it was anything like this, she never wanted to go through it again. Panic began to sink in, there was no light only darkness. Was there ever an end to this dark tunnel ? She wasn't a woman to give up, she'd fight with every last breath she had left inside her before she gave in to death. In her mind she cussed and called out Nikolai's name, in her mind she wanted to strangle the man, this was one clearly cruel joke. Bastard.. The last breath she took was harsh and ragged, she remembers that much and then she fell. Out of the dark soot, out of the darkness, into a timeless endless hole of nothingness. She then didn't feel a thing! Heavy lashes fluttered to life, her breaths came in slow at first and then a little faster. Samantha, was laying in a bed of black smooth silky material. Her body was clothed in what felt like a long silky gown. Her body was no long shattered and torn. Her hair was back to it's flame reds curls. She was in a bed that was not her own. Scanning the room, her eyes erratically searched for anything familiar. A man lay beside her, his chest rising and falling in unison with her rasing heart. Nikolai Dark, the man who captured her soul, the man who now owned her, slept. Eyes wide, she watched, she pinched her arm to make sure she was no longer dreaming but she still wasn't sure. She could be in the middle of a crazy drug trip. None of this made any sense at all.. None of this could real. Nikolai shifted, the black sheer material of the sheet slowly fell to his side exposing his broad beautiful shoulders. The muscles of his abs just begged for her touch every curve. She held back every ounce of strength she had to hold back and not dare touch him. The small smirk appeared across his smooth shaven, sexy lips. His eyes slowly opened, peering through thick seductive lashes. They were a intense emerald green and hypnotic as hell. " Well hello the gorgeous! Are watching me sleep? " He reached out with his right hand and cupped her chin in-between his forefinger and thumb. Samantha jerked back, a look of fear in her eyes, anger filled them with warms colors of greens and blues. " What the hell? "
