Adrian sat beside Scarlett in her car as she drove them back home. He had not wanted to, but she had made a subtle threat about calling her mom to inform her if he refused. Adrian sat silently and woodenly on the passenger’s seat, looking straight ahead, stiffened not by guilt but by the fear of his agenda being thwarted because of some stupid, avoidable mistake he made. Scarlet, on the other hand, had turned to observe him. Casually sizing him up again, inwardly grateful that she had caught him red-handed in his deceit.
