CHAPTER 4 – THE EDGE OF THE STORM
The wind screamed.
Rain hit like ice.
The world felt broken.
Selena’s cry vanished into the thunder.
Her knees hit the mud.
Water ran down her face, mixed with tears.
“Luciano!” she shouted.
No answer.
Only the sound of the waves crashing far below.
Lightning flashed.
The sea roared like a monster.
Dark. Endless. Hungry.
He was gone.
He had jumped.
For one long heartbeat, Selena couldn’t move.
Couldn’t even breathe.
Her chest ached so much she thought it might break.
Then—she heard it.
A faint growl under the storm.
A splash.
Her eyes widened.
Alive.
She wiped her face with a shaking hand.
Her hair stuck to her skin.
She looked down the cliff.
Sharp rocks jutted out like knives.
The ocean smashed against them, wild and furious.
Any normal person would wait for daylight.
For help.
For safety.
But Selena wasn’t normal.
She was Luna.
And the man below—the one who had once broken her heart—
had just risked his life for their sons.
She stood tall, fists tight.
“I’m coming,” she whispered.
Then she climbed.
She tore part of her dress, tied it to her waist.
Her bare feet slipped on wet stone.
She grabbed roots, vines, anything that would hold her weight.
Rain poured harder.
Thunder rolled overhead like war drums.
Her skin stung from the cold.
Her hands bled.
Her knees scraped raw.
But she didn’t stop.
“Hold on,” she whispered into the wind.
“Please, hold on.”
Halfway down, the ground gave way.
Her fingers slipped.
She dropped.
A scream ripped from her throat—then she caught a sharp rock.
Pain tore through her palm.
She dangled there, swinging above the storming sea.
She looked down.
The waves smashed against the rocks below, bright white in the lightning.
“Luciano!” she cried.
Then she saw him.
A dark shape tossed by the waves.
A body.
Her heart froze.
“Luciano!”
She tried to climb faster.
Her foot slipped.
A sharp edge cut her leg.
Blood mixed with rain.
Still, she didn’t stop.
She reached the bottom.
Sea spray hit her face.
Salt burned her eyes.
He floated close now—half in the water, too still.
“No,” she whispered. “No, please.”
She ran into the waves.
Cold hit her like knives.
She reached out, grabbed his arm, pulled with everything she had.
The water fought her.
The storm pushed her back.
But she screamed and held on.
Silver light flickered under her skin.
Her power—wild and fierce—woke up.
“Not tonight,” she growled. “Not him.”
With one last pull, she dragged him onto the rocks.
He was heavy.
Bleeding.
His face pale and still.
Selena fell beside him, chest heaving.
She touched his cheek.
Cold. Too cold.
“Luciano,” she whispered. “Don’t you dare die.”
She pressed her ear to his chest.
Nothing.
Tears blurred her vision.
“Please…”
She hit his chest once.
Then again.
“Breathe!”
Nothing.
Lightning split the sky.
Selena looked down at him, shaking.
“You can’t leave me again.”
She placed her hands over his heart.
Silver light glowed between her fingers.
The air shimmered.
The rain slowed.
The storm itself seemed to watch.
Her voice was soft, breaking.
“Come back. Please come back to me.”
Light spread through him.
For a moment, everything was still.
Then—he gasped.
Water burst from his mouth.
He coughed and rolled to the side, choking for air.
Selena froze.
Then cried.
“Luciano!”
He blinked, weak, dazed.
“Selena…”
She sobbed and laughed at once.
“You i***t. You jumped!”
He coughed, smiling faintly.
“Would’ve done it again.”
She hit his chest lightly.
“Don’t you dare.”
He caught her wrist.
Warm. Alive. Real.
For one heartbeat, the storm didn’t matter.
Only them.
Only that spark between them—the bond that had never died.
Then the air changed.
Luciano stiffened.
He turned his head toward the trees.
“They’re here,” he said.
Selena frowned. “Who?”
He didn’t answer.
Growls echoed from above.
Boots hit the wet ground.
Men shouting.
The hunters.
Selena grabbed his arm.
“You can’t fight like this!”
He tried to stand.
Blood ran down his side.
“I have to.”
“You’ll die!”
He gave a half smile.
“You saved me. Now it’s my turn.”
“Luciano—”
He stepped in front of her.
Eyes glowing gold.
The Alpha returned.
Selena stood beside him.
Her hands glowed silver.
The wind circled her like a crown.
Side by side.
Alpha and Luna.
United again.
The hunters came from the trees.
Guns. Blades. Red eyes.
“There! The Moonborn witch!” one shouted.
Selena raised her hands.
Light flashed around her.
Luciano growled.
“Touch her and you die.”
The first bullet fired.
He moved faster than light, pulling her behind him.
The shot grazed his arm.
Blood splashed.
He roared and charged.
Even hurt, he was pure fury.
He tore through the first three hunters.
Selena joined him.
Her power exploded.
Each swing of her arm sent lightning crashing into the enemies.
Together they fought—
Light and shadow.
Luna and Alpha.
But there were too many.
For every one they dropped, two more came.
Luciano’s breaths grew rough.
He stumbled.
Too much blood lost.
Selena saw it.
Her heart cracked.
“Luciano!”
He shook his head.
“Go. Find the boys.”
“I’m not leaving you!”
“Selena—”
A shot exploded near them.
Smoke filled the air.
When it cleared, he was gone.
“Luciano!” she screamed.
No answer.
Only the sound of the storm.
She ran into the trees.
Branches tore at her arms.
Her feet splashed through mud.
She followed the blood trail—thin red streaks on the ground.
Her magic lit the path faint silver.
Then she saw something small.
A ribbon.
Blue.
Wet. Torn.
Her sons’.
She grabbed it, pressed it to her chest.
Her throat burned.
They were close.
She could feel them.
Two small heartbeats calling for her.
But the hunters were closing in.
Dogs barking.
Chains rattling.
Men shouting orders.
She hid behind a tree.
Held her breath.
A hunter passed by—so close she could smell the silver.
He didn’t see her.
She waited.
Then moved again.
Down the hill.
Through the thinning trees.
The rain eased.
A faint orange light flickered ahead.
She crept forward—
And froze.
In a clearing below, torches burned bright.
Dozens of hunters surrounded a black truck.
And inside that truck—
Matteo. Luca.
Her boys.
Tied. Crying.
Her heart twisted.
She bit her fist to stop the sound that wanted to escape.
Then she saw the man giving orders.
Tall. Silver-haired.
Eyes like winter.
The mark of the Council burned on his chest.
Selena’s stomach turned cold.
“Eldric,” she whispered.
He had ordered her death years ago.
Now he had her children.
Her pulse raced.
She wanted to attack—tear him apart—
but she needed a plan.
She crouched low, watching.
Waiting.
Then—
a voice behind her.
Low. Rough. Familiar.
“Don’t move.”
Her heart leaped.
She turned slowly.
Luciano stood there.
Soaked. b****y. Alive.
A dagger in his hand.
His eyes glowed faint gold.
“Luciano…” she breathed.
He didn’t smile.
He looked past her, at the truck.
“At them.”
“They’re moving the boys to the docks,” he said quietly.
“Before sunrise.”
Her hands trembled.
“Then we stop them.”
He met her eyes.
The storm roared again.
“We go together,” he said.
She stared at him.
The man who had broken her once.
The man who had jumped for her children.
She nodded.
“Together.”
Lightning flashed behind them.
Waves smashed the cliffs.
They stepped out of the trees.
Side by side.
Ready to fight the world.
Luciano’s hand found hers.
Warm. Strong.
“Ready?” he whispered.
Selena squeezed his fingers.
“Let’s bring our sons home.”
Thunder rolled.
The storm rose.
The earth trembled.
And below them, Eldric looked up.
A cold smile curved his lips.
“I was wondering when you’d come, Selena.”
The ground shook.
The sea behind them surged higher—
something huge rising from the depths.
Not human.
Not wolf.
Something ancient.
Selena’s eyes widened.
Luciano’s breath caught.
The real war had just begun.
HOOK / CLIFFHANGER:
The sea monster’s roar drowns the wind.
Eldric’s voice cuts through the chaos—
“Bring me the Luna alive.”
Lightning flashes.
Luciano steps forward, gold eyes blazing.
And the storm itself bends around him.
