Chapter SevenThe Earl rose early despite the fact that he had gone to bed very late after his ball. As he dressed, he decided that he would go to Wroxley Priory. He summoned his secretary and gave him instructions to send a groom ahead to prepare the household. “I have a letter here,” the Earl continued, “for Mademoiselle Desirée Lafette.
