Chapter Twenty-Three The Hummer definitely looked out of place amongst the Volvos, SUV’s, motor homes, and pickup trucks of the tourist crowds that flocked to the coastal towns like Glad Beach on the weekends. Bryce steered the expensive truck around a mustard yellow Volvo that pulled off the highway in front of him into the local pancake house parking lot. In the Volvo were two adults, two kids—a boy and a girl—and a bright eyed Golden Retriever whose alert brown eyes followed the Hummer as it passed. Bryce glanced at his father, Walter, sitting in the passenger seat, and grinned. He stepped harder on the gas pedal causing the powerful V8 engine to send a rumble through the car’s frame. He caught a glimpse of the smiling man in the driver’s seat of the Volvo before he shot past them.
