Chapter 2. The plan

1478 Words
Adam’s POV The moment I manage to send the woman off with my private driver taking her back to her destination. I hop on the internet to find out who she was to my brother and funny enough I couldn’t find even a picture of her and him on any of his social media pages which was weird. Desmond was quite fun of displaying his lovers on social media. Parading them around and giving them the tag of a soulmate only to dump them a week later. That was his style. I immediately text my best friend pictures of the lady from the cctv footage I had in my office. I still didn’t know her name and wondered how I had managed to hold a conversation with her. In my head I called her little fairy because she looked like a fairy with her small pointed nose and chubby cheeks which gave her gave a baby like look. From the little chat we had, I had come to discover she was quite timid, shy and definitely from a poor background which was unlike Desmond since he only dated i********: models. She also revealed she had been so upset when I- Desmond wouldn’t pick her call since her parents had thrown her out of the house after discovering she was pregnant. I had told the lady I would marry her and we would spend the rest of our life together. A beautiful big lie that was. The only reason I wanted her was purely for my father’s company and if I find out she would be of no use, then I’d come clean and let her know I was the wrong brother. Arthur texts me back 20 minutes later with full details about the lady and even a better and clearer picture of her. I send him a quick thank you before going through the information he had sent to me. Her name was Isa Lorenzo. Her parents were Italian migrants. Isa was a twenty year old girl from a very poor background with extremist as her parents. No wonder they had sent her out after knowing she was pregnant. She had stopped her education at high school. No doubt due to the fact that her parents could not afford her going to a university. In summary, Isa has had a very pitiful life and what was more pitiful was the fact that she had let herself become a thing with a person like Desmond. I text my rogue brother, asking for his whereabouts and he ignores my text but in the next second, my phone pings with a notification from Snapchat. My brother posted on his story and when I go to view it, he’s in Cancun on some vacation with his useless friend’s for sure, spending the company’s money. I grit my teeth as I close the Snapchat app and text one of the company lawyers. The good thing about having walked in my father’s company for years is that I had managed to make good connections. Two torturous meetings later and I’m leaving the Richardson building to my car. I drive straight to the restaurant I’ve picked for my special meeting with one of the company Lawyers, Mr Akin. When I get into the restaurant, it doesn’t take time to spot Mr Akin seated at the far end of the restaurant with a glass of which I was sure contained sparkling water in front of him. “Good day Mr Akin.” I say taking the seat opposite him as I give a handshake which he readily takes. “Mr Adams. It’s been a long time. I must say I was quite surprised to have gotten a text from you. I suppose this meeting has to do about your father appointing a new CEO for the Richardson firm.” He said. I nod my head. Grateful for how fast Mr Akin has picked up the topic. “Yes. Since you know what I’m seeking, you might as well give me the information I need.” I respond. Mr Akin chuckles. “I don’t know what I’m particular you want to know. Everything lies in the hand of your father.” I shake my head at him, leaning into my seat. Out of all the lawyers which handled the legal affairs of Richardson firm, Mr Akin was the closest to my father. If there was anyone who could influence his decision, it would be Mr Akin. “Contrary to what you may think. I believe you more than anyone can help me with what the information I need.” I replied. Mr Akin raises one perfectly arched eyebrow at me. “Information? The only information you would consider important is knowing if your father will be choosing you and as much as I hate to remind you this, I do not control your father’s mind.” “But you influence his decisions.” I retorted. “Adam, what is it you want?.” Adam said caving in. I smile at that. “Simple actually. I just want to know what to do that would put me up as my father’s first choice.” I said. “Hmmm.” Mr Akin said, his fore head creasing with worry lines as he holds his chin. “Well that one is easy. What is the one thing your father treasures? Family. Your father is sick about family and keeping the family together. Honestly, I’m shocked you of all people had not realized this.” Mr Akin said. “Your father plans on giving the company to the one person who shows the capability of building a family, a home. That way his company has hope of being one day turned down to his grand child. He was hoping on you but I’ve never seen you with any woman.” He continued. I looked at him aghast. “ so he’d rather give it to Desmond who’s a man w***e?.” I reply annoyed. Mr Akin shrugs. “At least he’s interested in women and sure to settle down soon when he finds the right one. You on the other hand…let’s just say he worries you’ll die a lonely soul with no woman to call yours because you’ve shut your heart. His words, not mind.” He said adding the last part in a rush. I look Mr Akin over. It was time for the phase 2 of my plan. “I do have a woman. Actually a wife and we’re expecting a baby together soon.” I say. Mr Akin looks shocked at the information. “Why didn’t you tell anyone? How come your father doesn’t know?.” He asked with suspicious eyes but I don’t flinch under his gaze. It was expected anyways. “Because I live a very private life.” I reply. “Why are you telling me this now Adam?.” Mr Akin asks wearily. I give him a broad smile. “Because you’re going to help me convince my father I’m the best man for the job.” I replied. The conversation soon enough moved to more simpler things and after a few minutes I was off to meet my own attorney to take the documents I needed. I drove to where Isa lived with her friend. It was a ghetto area in the heart of New York. I could see huge rats running around the streets with waste littered everywhere. The area stunk like hell as I came down from my car, staring at the dilapidated house my supposed fiancé stayed in. “He’s here! He came!.” I hear a female voice that wasn’t Isa gush out from inside the house. Soon enough Isa comes out with a smile on her face, her cheeks pink and her eye glistening with happiness. I try my best not to puke at the way she looks at me lovingly as i try my best, putting on my best Desmond smirk at her. “Hey beautiful.” I say walking up to her. Isa’a eyes follows my movement as I get close to her, giving her a peck on the cheek which makes her blush profusely. Being so close to her, I realized she had brown freckles on her cheeks. “Your friend is quite nosy.” I whisper to her, nudging my nose in the direction of the broken window which her friend stood hidden, peeping at us. Isa turned back to look at her friend before turning her attention back to me. “Don’t mind her. But what are you doing here?.” Isa asked. I smiled lovingly at her, my hands cupping her cheeks. “I’m here to take you home with me Isa. You’re moving into my mansion as my wife.” I said with the smile on my face as Isa reciprocated it.
