Chapter 3. A broken heart

1620 Words
Isa’s POV I tried to contain my excitement as Desmond pulled up in front of his house. It wasn’t just a house, it was a mansion. He acted like a gentleman, coming to open my own side of the car as he helped me down. It made my heart flutter as hope blossomed in me. 72 hours ago I had thought he had blocked me out of his life and it had scared me to death. Especially since I was carrying his baby and now as I look into his eyes which were sparkling with love for me, I feel bad for ever doubting how much he loved me. I didn’t really know much about Desmond. I had met him at a club where I worked and we had hit it off immediately. We began to see each other and in two days had exchanged I love you. After two weeks, Desmond had decided I was the woman for him and had proposed to me without a ring. He had given an excuse of forgetting it at his apartment but I still didn’t care as I gave him my virginity. After all, I was going to be marrying him so why wait? In the end, not waiting had landed me being pregnant and I had panicked since Desmond had ghosted me and worst my parents had figured I was pregnant and threw me away from the house, disowning me. If not for my downs Lexi, I would probably be on the streets. She had also been the one to search up about Desmond and gave me the address to his company. That’s how I got to know where to find him and atlas I was with the man I loved to the moon. And he was happy to be with me just as I was happy to be with him. “It’s overwhelming I know.” Desmond said as he ushered me into his mansion. The inside had surpassed my imagination. The decor was simple and yet I could tell each item should’ve cost more than a hundred thousand dollars. “Your home is beautiful.” I tell Desmond. He smiles at me. “I know that.” He said before disappearing to a corner. When he appears back, he has a champagne bottle and two glasses in hand. I look at him stunned before bursting into a fit of laughter. “What?.” Desmond asked. “Babe. I’m pregnant. I can’t take champagne.” I remind him. He Palms himself dramatically which makes me laugh. “I’m sorry.” He said. “It’s fine. Water will do.” I say and he sends a maid walking by to go get me a glass of water. I scrunch my eyebrows together since I didn’t know he had house staffs. But of course for such a big house, there had to be people maintaining it. The maid comes back with my glass of water in minutes and I take a large gulp of it before emptying the glass. “Good. Come with me.” Desmond said sternly. I frown at the tone in his voice but brush it off as I go with him.He leads me into a room and as soon as I step in, I realize it’s his study room. The room had a warm ambiance with the furniture all dark brown and the lighting dim enough that you could still see the room well. “Have a seat.” Desmond said formally, sitting on the large wooden office table while I took a seat. “Is there a problem Desmond?.” I ask confused and the way he scrunches his nose at me calling him by his name doesn’t go unnoticed by me. It made me wonder if I had upset him in anyway. “There’s none Isa. But… it’s nothing really.” Desmond said dismissively and immediately I know something was up. “You can talk to me. Tell me what it is.” I said pleading with my eyes. Desmond sighed. “Well baby I was thinking today about throwing a wedding and all that. I just feel it’s a total waste of time. So I’ve decided we have a court marriage.” He said From his tone I could already tell it was a final decision. He wasn’t asking for my permission about how our wedding would go but that didn’t matter to me. All that mattered was being with him so I nodded my head to show him my support. “I don’t have a problem with that.” I said. “Exactly what I said to myself. So, here it is. I need your signature here and over here and we’re married.” Desmond said taking out a document and placing it in front of me before handing a pen to me. I stare at him confused and then at the document in front of me. Everything felt so sudden but this was a man I was in love with so I didn’t even think of reading through as I signed the pages, grinning widely as I gave the documents back to Desmond. “There you go. So… does this mean I’m legally your wife now?.” I said excitedly smiling at Desmond but he doesn’t smile back at me instead he glared at me standing up with the document in hand to leave the study room. “Desmond. What’s wrong?.” I asked holding his hands but Desmond flung my hand away. “What’s wrong with you?.” He snapped angrily. I was confused. Had I offended him in anyway? “Desmond why are you acting this way? What happened? You were okay two minutes ago.” I said confused. Desmond broke into an ugly laugh as he stared at me mockingly. “You’re really dumb Isa. I have to really say you’re prove that poor people are really dumb.” He spat at me. I recoiled from his words, wondering where all this was coming from. “Did I offend you? What did I do?.” I ask, tears brimming in my eyes. “Isa, for your own good I’d advice you stay out of my way. Fuckin whore.” He said. “What? Desmond what did you just say? You’re the father of this child!.” I yelled out angrily as the tears fell from my eyes. Who was this man in front of me? “Except the part where I’m not Isa.” He replied with a mocking smile. “What do you mean?.” I ask furrowing my brows. “Isa. Isa. Poor Isa. I’m not Desmond Richardson my love. My name is Adam Richardson and I’m Desmond’s twin.” He said with a sinister smile on his face. “What?.” I whispered out, paling out immediately. “What…that’s not possible…” I said trailing off, still in shock. Desmond had never mentioned anything about having a twin to me before. “What’s all this drama Desmond? You’re hurting me. Please stop this if it’s a prank.” I begged taking a step forward to him but he took a step backward. “Isa, I don’t have time for this Fuckin drama of yours. I’m nor desmond but Adam. Now If you don’t mind, I have things to do.” He said. “Then why? Why would you marry me when you’re not even Desmond?!.” I yell out angrily feeling violated and used. I had opened up to this man and had signed to be his wife. The man who’s name is Adam chuckled lowly. “Let’s say I had my reasons. Now can I go?.” He asked, his voice dripping in disgust. I could feel myself slipping into a panic attack. I couldn’t stay here with my baby. How would I ever explain this to Desmond when he finally sees me with his twin brother?! “No. I can’t do this. I don’t know what twisted plan this is but I refuse to be a part of it.” I said angrily. “Oh Please. You’re broke and homeless. You wouldn’t survive on your own taking care of that child. So be lucky I’m putting up with you.” Adam gritted out, his jaw hard and his eyes cold as ice. My heart broke into a million pieces as I realized I was indeed alone in this world. I had put all my hope in love and This was where it had landed me. “And don’t even think of running away or leaving.” He threatened. “You don’t even love me!.” I yelled out in frustration as tears streamed down my eyes. Adam’s gaze on me hardened. “Maybe you should learn to read before signing documents you don’t know anything about. It stated in the document you signed that you are not allowed to get a divorce until after two years.” Adam replied. This was ridiculous! I scoff at him. “Yeah well, I’m getting one because I refuse to be married to you.” I retorted. “Ahh, but you see i’m not stopping you from doing that. Only, you’ve agreed to pay me $100 million as emotional compensation if you should file for a divorce. So you see Isa, I don’t care what you do as far as you have my money.” Adam said. I felt my bones give way to my weight as I sat down on a chair close by. Adam stared at me for a while before giving a mocking chuckle as he left the study. “What have I gotten myself into?.” I whisper as fresh tears brim in my eyes.
