Just before he left Crete, in an initiation ceremony that included war dances and traditional processes, Zeus crossed over to adulthood. Adolescence was a period of initiation into the spiritual, martial and sociopolitical life.
His adolescence had been over and he now had to reach his decisions. He would have to decide whether he would spend the rest of his life hidden and complacent on the Ides Mountain or embark on the arduous and dangerous quest to rid Earth from the yoke of Cronos. He chose the second, a path wrought with danger, toil, and unceasing travel. In that ceremony, the gifts reserved for him for his coming of age were given to him. Later, he would acquire the more powerful and better weapon, an offer of the Cyclops for their freedom.
