Chapter 6

Swish— Max turned on the cold water and soaked himself completely. The fire in his dark, deep eyes slowly faded away in the icy water. His wet, short hair stood out against his pale skin. Glistening droplets slid down his tight muscles, leaving bright trails behind. In his ears, it felt like that boy's mocking laughter from before he died was still ringing: "You killed me just to protect her? Hahaha! Just to protect her? Can you honestly say that's all there is?" A wave of bitterness washed over him. Max looked up with a forced smile on his face. "Has she grown up?" he wondered aloud. If it weren't for that reason, how could he even react to what she did? What a beast, he thought. Right now, all he could think about was her body. The feeling of her touch lingered on him. He reached for his throbbing erection, unable to hold back the desire anymore. No matter what Maya really wanted, this teasing behavior clearly felt like revenge against him. He closed his eyes and let himself sink into the curtain of water. But this time was different; he wouldn't run away or shy away from it again. He didn't want to go through that pain again when he found out about Maya's impending death from afar. But other thoughts crept into his mind too. What if Maya was serious? Looking at her focused and clear eyes—there wasn't a hint of deception—how could she suddenly do this to him..? There had to be some reason! Maya stood by the door pressed against the wall, listening closely to everything inside. She picked up on Max's heavy breathing and physical reactions with her sharp senses. According to her plan, Max should have been focused on her body next, but instead satisfied his desires himself. At that moment, confusion filled her eyes. She didn't know where she had gone wrong; it seemed like he was rejecting any chance at "loving" her. Should she just take control? Maya quickly shot down that plan. When Max picked her up, she tried to fight back, but honestly, this human body was just too weak to hold its ground against him. But there was still a way out. Maya figured out what she needed to do: If that's the case, she just had to get her power back up so it was stronger than his. She decided to keep working on strengthening and transforming her body until it could overpower Max. With that goal in mind, Maya headed back to her room and started using her true form to transform herself further. Liquid metal flowed with energy, turning into tiny needles that stimulated her cells and unlocked the potential hidden within her body. The human body is pretty mysterious; there's something called "potential" that robots struggle to replicate. Figuring out how to tap into this potential and boost the human body is something Maya happens to know quite a bit about in the mechanical world. This process wasn't exactly fun. Back when she was in the mechanical space trying these methods on humans--including herself--the intense pain shooting through her nerves almost made her feel like she couldn't breathe. Less than ten seconds went by before beads of sweat began forming on her forehead. Sure, she could block some of the pain signals from reaching her brain, but then she'd lose track of how things were changing in her body and wouldn't be able to guide them properly. So instead, relying on sheer willpower, she pushed through the pain while constantly testing how much more she could take. Time flew by. By the time every inch of her was soaked with sweat and looking even weaker than before, she suddenly opened her eyes wide—there was a flash of bright blue light flickering in them for just a moment before it disappeared. Her senses—which were already pretty sharp—became even sharper! She could hear insects flapping their wings from 300 meters away and felt strong enough that when she gripped a small screwdriver on the bedside table tightly enough, it left two fingerprints behind! Even though Maya thought this body was still too weak to bother with, the fact that it could change was a good sign. It showed that even though this body wasn't strong, its potential had never been tapped into over the years, so there was hope for improvement. Of course, making real progress would mean using some drugs, not just this basic physical stimulation. With her senses all fired up, Maya could clearly pick up on what was happening 300 meters away from her clinic. Looking out the window, she spotted a familiar face in the dark alley by the old power grid station. The word "friend" popped into her mind when she saw him. It was Eric, the only son of Ninth City's mayor. Maya was three years younger than Eric; he had just turned nineteen. He knew all about trouble and had quite a reputation for getting into fights. He lived life without any restrictions or worries about his status. When they bumped into each other at a nightclub, it felt like lightning meeting fire—they clicked right away. But for some reason, he never made a move on Maya. Maybe she seemed too young and innocent for him, or maybe their friendship made things awkward, or perhaps he had his own reasons. No matter what it was, he remained one of Maya's closest friends. Now here was Eric in an expensive suit, looking totally out of sorts, surrounded by several folks from the Radiant Organization. His buttons were undone, showing off his pale skin—definitely fitting for someone known as a playboy. "I'm telling you guys—are you really going to be this stubborn? I'll say it one last time: Are you going to let me go to the clinic or not?" Eric's voice dripped with anger as he spoke. A cold glint flashed in his slightly elongated fox-like eyes. But those people around him from the Radiant Organization looked completely blank—as if they were made out of stone—with no signs of emotion whatsoever. "Mr. Anderson has said no one can enter the clinic until he gives permission." "Damn it! Why are you all so stubborn? It's still over 300 meters to that damn clinic! And who the heck is this Mr. Anderson? Huh? I'm your young master!" Eric finally lost his cool and started cursing, especially when he saw his followers getting trampled on the ground while he was stuck. Behind every city mayor, there's a powerful, hidden force, and the Smith family is no different. Mr. Smith had been in a good mood, looking forward to seeing what kind of trouble Maya had stirred up. But instead of any excitement, he found himself trapped by his own people. He spent an entire hour dealing with his own guys! "No one gets in!" The same line kept being repeated. Little Eric slapped his forehead. "Are you guys following him or me?!" "We only take orders from the boss. If Mr. Smith doesn't leave soon, we'll have to escort you back." If these guys really made him go back home, that old man would definitely give him a hard time again. At that moment, little Eric seriously wanted to curse their ancestors out loud. Suddenly, he spotted someone familiar at the corner and perked up, "Maya!" Maya just stood there, neither coming closer nor backing off; she stared at little Eric like she was deep in thought about something. Since they'd been friends for a few years now, little Eric quickly said, "I've got something good for you!" When Maya finally walked toward him without hesitation, little Eric let out a huge sigh of relief and relaxed against the steel bars while pointing her way to several members of the organization standing around: "You see that? I only came for her! I don't want anything to do with that damn clinic!" The guards outside Clinic No. 3 fell silent as they watched Maya approach; they stopped talking altogether. As long as nobody broke any rules here, they really didn't have any reason to act tough anymore, so they quietly slipped back into the shadows. "I want an energy crystal," Maya said flatly in front of little Eric. This was the key thing she needed to get her strength back. Since little Eric was someone who could handle anything, she decided to ask him for it. Little Eric's face lit up with curiosity. He grinned, threw his arm around Maya's shoulder, and leaned in close to whisper in her ear, "Did you really get struck by lightning? How do you know such a secret? You weren't just pretending to be clueless at home, were you? I even came all this way just to tell you." Maya didn't quite get what he meant but simply nodded and replied, "Yeah, I got struck." At that moment, little Eric looked at her differently. They locked eyes; he tilted his head and studied her closely. Without all the heavy makeup and that tough attitude she usually had on display, Maya seemed so delicate and ethereal—way more attractive than before. Suddenly, a mischievous grin spread across his face. He turned slightly and pressed Maya against the rough steel frame behind them. His hand slid down from her shoulder around her waist. In that instant, Maya found herself completely held by him; their bodies were almost glued together, with his breath nearly brushing against her cheek. Little Eric's voice was usually bright and clear, but now it took on a deeper tone: "What do you say about considering me?" "Consider you?" Maya felt totally lost. "I'm being straight-up since we're friends already! How about being my girl for real? I'll protect you—no one will dare mess with you—and you'll have me as your man." Little Eric watched closely to see how she'd react. Her man? Suddenly, there was a spark in Maya's eyes. So he wanted to offer himself up to her! Maya thought: Just like I figured—he can handle anything he wants—even the guy I need is right here offering himself! She took a good look at little Eric. Even though he didn't seem all that strong, he was still a young guy. Having more samples wouldn't hurt, so Maya nodded, "Alright!"
