Chapter 1

January 12, 2016This was the third time I have seen her sitting all alone in the back corner booth of Lewis Diner. She kept her head bowed not ever glancing up at anyone or anything. For the last two days, I have seen her, I could have sworn she wore the same pair of jeans and the same black t-shirt that had the word 'REVEAL ' written in all caps and in gold across the front. She had a thin sweater on which was definitely for the cold but it was too thin to protect her. Her hair was all frizzy and a complete messy. I'm pretty sure she knew but I guess she didn't care much about it as many women do. Her beautiful hazelnut skin tone was what caught my eyes the first day I met her. It matched her jet black hair so perfectly. I heard her silently cough, her shoulders slightly moving. I wanted to ask if she was OK or if she needed help, but I stayed in my current spot watching her like a total freak from across the small diner.I looked away from her, finishing the rest of my coffee in one gulp before standing up and walking back to the ordering counter."Can I have another dark coffee one cube of sugar please?" I asked in a strongly heavy English accent."Anything else sir?" The redhead behind the counter asked typing away on the computer.I turned my head to look at the hazelnut beauty, she now had her head laid on her right arm, I assumed she was asleep. I slowly turned my back to the redhead."Yes, can you add scrambled eggs and bacon on the side please, " I asked her politely before turning back to face the one and only hazelnut.I came up with the nickname last week when I saw her sitting at a bus station all by herself, it was indeed the first and only time I saw her beautiful facial features. I never thought I would see them in a million years. She was the reason why I always came here, she was the reason why I'm always late to work, she is the reason why I got slapped by my fiancee after coming up with the idea of bringing a stranger into our house. I personally thought she overreacted of course, but I had to respect her opinion, it can't always be about me anymore."Sir, did you hear me?" I quickly turned around to the front of the counter to find the same redhead. She looks irritated and I didn't even do anything to her."I'm sorry... can you repeat that?" I apologized."Your-" she pointed her index finger at my chest, "total is $12.34" she finished.I took out my wallet and paid her before grabbing my coffee and the plate, I slowly made my way towards her booth. I sat without permission and pushed the food towards her with the coffee, in an instant her head shot up revealing her full lips, dark brown eyes, darker than the color of her hazelnut skin tone. She stared at me without saying a word and I did the same, she turned her head to the right before releasing a sneeze."God bless you," I said, a sign of respect my mother told me to never forget."T-thank you." She weakly replied in a silent tone to the point where I almost didn't hear her."You are very welcome." I put both hands on the table, intertwining my fingers."So your not going to eat?" I asked after a moment of silence. She didn't answer the question but looked down at the table, at the food I bought, then back at me."How do I know it's not poison?" she asked. Her voice was delicate and smooth, it was soft but a little rough here and there, It sounded really sexy. I gave her a wary look."Do I look like an evil person?" I asked looking at her luscious brown curls. She simply shrugged before looking down at the food once more.I let out a low sigh before taking the plate away from her. I grab a fork and took a bite of the eggs, I chewed then swallowed, all in the meantime staring into her eyes to prove my point."See it's not poisoned," I said, pushing the plate towards her."I'm not hungry." She pushed the plate back toward me.I stayed silent and watched her, She returned the favor by staring at me with a really heated gaze. Our staring contest was interrupted by a rumbling noise. She looked down at her tummy, I gave her my signature smirk."Hungry now?" I ask, pushing the plate back towards her.She slowly nods her head as she retrieves the plate of eggs and bacon, my smirk turned into a huge smile as she started eating. About 10 minutes later she was done eating, I was going to be late for work but I didn't care. I wanted to help people and I could tell just by looking at her I needed to help her. She started to stand up and I stood up with her."Could you please stop following me white boy." she rudely says.We walked out of the restaurant together and she started walking south. I quickly got in my red Audi and followed her, she wobbled on the sidewalk while holding on to her jacket tightly."Do you need a ride home," I asked loud enough for her to hear me from the passenger side window. She shook her head no."Come I'll give you a ride," I assured her."I don't need a ride. I told you already." She replied harshly before speeding up her paste.I speed up the car and zoomed past her driving to work since I'm probably already two hours late...............I walked in the restaurant exhausted after a long day at work. I slumped down in a booth by the window and looked outside. All the people walking around, there feet's moving rapidly, I admired the tall buildings surrounding the small restaurant. It was always busy in the afternoon in the city of Karin, but in all that business my gaze fell on the hazelnut beauty sitting on a bench across the street. Her shoulders shaking furiously and her body looked as if it was about to give up, I assume she was crying, head in her hands as her shoulder shook even more. I walked out of the restaurant with a tray, holding three cappuccinos one for me, one for hazelnut, and the last one for my fiance. I crossed the street and walked to where she sat, I sat down next to her with the plate on my lap."Do you want some?" I asked startling her.She slightly jumped and turned towards me, her eyes puffy, red, and bags under her eyes, she quickly whipped her eyes."I....um...-I -" she stuttered in search for words."How about we go inside my car? It's pretty chilly out here." I stood up from the bench with the plate in my hand, she stood up and followed me to my car. Once we reached the car I opened the door for her then got in the drivers' side. I notice a change in her attitude, something must have happened in those hours I was gone to make her a new person. I gave her a cup and started sipping on my cup, I started the car and turned the heat on. A little warmer than before so it could help her unfreeze."So.......do you want me to bring you home?" I ask as I spare a glance at her to find her staring out of the window."I-I recently don't have a place to stay," She replied still looking out the window. My eyebrows joined in confusion, "you got kicked out or something?"
