Immediately the diviner left, Nathaniel felt the sharp, heavy sting of his father's glare from behind. He avoided looking at Robert for some minutes, waiting for him to kick-start the conversation.
“ Blood covenant? You have been spiritually grounded since you were a child, how could you engage in a blood covenant? “ Robert asked sternly.
Nathaniel kept mute.
“ Kids can be foolish you know. “ Rebecca replied. Her words irked Nathaniel and made him turn.
“ I was nothing but a clueless child, I had no knowledge that it would have implications. “ He replied.
“ Not so clueless now, “ Rebecca added. Nathaniel fisted his palms, fighting the urge to give her a punch to the lip, that would make her shut the hell up.
“ How bad is the bad luck? “ Robert asked.
Nathaniel rested his hands heavily on his waist, he thought about his reply before making it public, “ Bad dreams, my house caught on fire and… a trailer carrying company materials fell off a cliff, everyone died inside. “
Nathaniel pitched Robert a stiff look as he saw the man go from shock to fury, it worried him.
“ See what you have caused the company? If your father had given my daughters a shot at managing that place, all this wouldn't have happened. “ Rebecca spunned.
Nathaniel brows fiercely raised, “ I beg you to shut up. “
“ Do not insult my wife! “ Robert defended her.
“ I'm sorry father. “ Nathaniel was quick to apologise. “ Ambrose is already handling the accident, it would cause us no problems. “
Robert sighed deeply and sat on one of the imperial seats in the living room, he gestured one of his security to pass him a bottle of whiskey. “ Who is the girl you had the covenant with? “
Nathaniel knew this was where the real shock would be administered, “ Eritrea Radcliffe. “
Robert choked on his drink, “ The security man Pedro? Is that not his daughter. “
“ It is. “
“ Hold on a minute, “ Robert stood, “ That little brat you frequently skipped school with? “
Nathaniel was beyond embarrassed, “ She is the one. “
“ She is the daughter of a lowlife! “ Robert raised.
Rebecca cackled mockingly, “ Let me lower my standards a little here, it doesn't matter who her parents are, but the girl, who is she? What does she do? “
Nathaniel realised the amount of problem he was able to face when he discloses Eritrea's job as a prostitute. He groaned, heads up, preparing for what to come.
“ She is a s*x worker. “
Silence swept past the room.
“ Are you saying she is a prostitute? “ Rebecca broke the silence.
The words came stiff out of Nathaniel “ Yes. “
Robert lost it. He fiercely swung over to the security personnel that stood next to him, grabbed the gun from the man's waist belt and shot it wreckless in the air. Rebecca dived to the back of a chair to evade bullets, while Nathaniel merely stood fearless.
“ Someone please call me Olivia! She will know what to do. “ Robert yelled.
Olivia was called, she was also briefed on the issue at hand.
Olivia, slender, athletic and tall. Her blonde hair was stylishly wooven, making her appear like rapunzel from tangled. She observed a few minutes of deep cogitation, “ The only problem we have here is your betrothed wife, Fiona Thruxton, I supposed we can't cancel that marriage. “
Robert slammed the table with his fists, “ Of course not! We need the Thruxton bank on our side. “ He pointed at Nathaniel, “ You know the immense importance of that family alliance! “
Nathaniel sighed, “ Father calm down_
“ Nathan, “ Olivia called him, reaching for his hands in a bid to calm him down. Nathaniel loved and respected his sister, she was always comforting and benevolent not withstanding her looks.
“ Marry the woman to cancel the bad luck, if we ignore this something very bad might happen. I remember one time we were young when father separated you from her, you fell ill for a week. “
Nathaniel was stunned that Olivia recalled that memory.
“ And fiona? “ Nathaniel probed.
“ We would have to hide the marriage with your covenant mate_
“ Please don't call it that. “
“ Fine. “ Olivia smiled, “ Whatever you agree with Eritrea must be diplomatic and signed. She will agree to be hidden and will be introduced as a part of this family. “
Nathaniel squinted, “ A contract marriage that states that she will be recognised as a family member? “
“ Well, I have always wanted a sister, she has a very beautiful name, is she nice? “
Nathaniel hissed, “ Focus Olli. “
Olivia cleared her throat, “ The marriage would be hidden, when your marriage with Fiona is done, we can discard Eritrea. “
“ Won't that start the badluck? “ Nathaniel asked.
“ After a while of marriage, we would consult the spirit again. I'm convinced that granting the covenant for a while will flatten the bad luck. “
Nathaniel nodded satisfied, he hugged Olivia in gratitude. “ Thanks Olli, You're a blessing. “
Olivia smiled, “ It's alright, don't lie this bother you much. “
Robert began, “ I will personally meet with her father and_
“ I will handle it father. I will structure up a contract and meet Eritrea myself. Stay out of it. “
“ And you promise me that there will be no problems? “ Robert's voice drew in a threatening way.
“ Have I ever disappointed you? “
Robert ignored his question, “ The tabloids, seeing that your covenant mate is a prostitute, the media will ruin us if they find out. Don't let that happen. “
Nathaniel feared that the nickname ‘covenant mate’ will stick.
“ I will not. “
“ Very well, see to it that everything is done speedily, I need to speak with Pedro Radcliffe, I don't know why my path keeps crossing with that bastard. “ Robert walked out after giving Olivia a kiss on the forehead.
*************
Nathaniel was angry with how things went. Notwithstanding the issue with his mother, he hated disappointing his father, that made him look weak and incompetent. He regretted the blood covenant with Eritrea, if he had not done it, he wouldn't be forced to marry a prostitute.
He got prepared and informed the manager at club Regent where Eritrea worked. He paid for another private session and waited for her to arrive.
And she did.
