Chapter four

Casey I sensed her before I saw her, I felt her presence the moment I entered the classroom. I couldn’t look at her but when I decided to sit down next to her, I couldn’t stop myself but to look. I wasn’t surprised when I found her looking up at me. And for the second time today I had to catch my breath. This girl was no model but she sure as well was breath-taking, just by being a natural beauty. I watched her interact with my friends and I just couldn’t help myself but listen to the way she talks. I got so distracted that I almost missed her looking at me as Henry introduced me to her. I wanted to open my mouth and tell her something but I couldn’t wrap my mind around what to say to her. Thank goodness for the teacher who decided to enter the classroom, she definitely helped me out with my current situation. Throughout the lesson, I kept on looking at Abby from out the corner of my eye. She too was not interested in the lesson as she got side-tracked and started to scribble in the back of her workbook. I thought it was only scribbling until I looked closer and noticed it was far from scribbling. She as actually drawing. She was very artistic. My body jerked at the sound of the school bell ringing when I looked back at Abby. I found her books already packed away and she was ready to go. I too packed my books away and stood up from my seat moving aside to give her some space to go first. I then walked out with the guys and said my goodbyes. I started to make my way when I heard a loud sigh, I looked over my shoulder and found a very frustrated Abby. She looked defeated as she stared at her roster in her hands. “Something wrong?” I asked, deciding to open my mouth. She didn’t look up when she replied. “I have no idea where my next class is.” After she was done talking, she finally looked up. She did a double take as her gaze landed upon me. Her eyes widen and her jaw when slack. I had a remark stuck in my mind but instead, I decided to be a decent guy. “Need help?” I asked holding out my hand to her. But she just stood her with her mouth agape, staring at me unblinking. “Are we going to stand here all day staring at each other?” I started. “Or are we going to find your next class before you get your first detention?” I continued. She finally closed her mouth and took a step towards me handing me her roster. “Abigale Hallaway.” I read out loud, just to the test the feeling over her name on my lips. I then read her roster. “Ah, it is your lucky day. I know where your next class is.” I told her, handing her roster back to her. She only quirked an eyebrow. “Your next class is with me again, most of your classes are except art.” I watched her look at the ground before she raised her gaze back up. She wanted to say something but she decided not to. “Come on, follow me.” I said gesturing towards the now empty hallway. We walked side by side in silence and every time I decided to look to my side I found her looking at me biting down on her lip. “What?” I finally asked. “Don’t mind my lack of response but you are actually talking to me and not just staring.” So, she caught me staring. Well, that is nice. “I didn’t mean it as a bad thing for not talking to you.” She only nodded, playing with the ends of her hair. “Well, this is it. And by the looks of it, we are still on time.” I said opening the door and moving aside so she could enter. After she entered the classroom did I follow shutting the door behind me. “Thanks for helping me out there.” She said. “No problem, guess I owe it to you.” She wanted to say something but we got interrupted by Becky who grabbed me by the upper arm. “Hey, babe. I saved you a seat.” I looked at Becky and then back at Abby who connected the dots in her head. I also noticed that her thinking buds were maybe just over thinking a little bit too much. I was waiting for that awkward “oh” but she only gave me a smile and then she walked off to the back to find herself a seat. I exhaled softly and sat down next to Becky. I felt like such a wuss. I wasn’t even dating Becky, I don’t even have any feelings towards Becky. I looked over my shoulder to see if Abby was doing okay. I frowned when I found her already seated with her books in front of her pretending to be busy. Any man with the right mind would have stood up, walked up to her and would have taken the seat next to her. But instead, I decided to be the pathetic guy. I was such a jerk. After class was over, Abby didn’t wait as she was the first one out of the classroom. I lazily made my way down the busy hall towards the gym locker room. When got there the boys were already out on the court practicing. I greeted a few of the guys while making my way through towards the locker rooms. I too got dressed and met everyone outside. “So, what’s the deal?” Henry asked once I reached them. “What deal?” I asked rolling my shoulders to warm myself up. “With Becky?” He asked motioning towards her who was already dressed for practice. “That girl has a mind of her own, no matter what I tell her. She still creates this fucken image of me and her dating.” Henry and Duan only chuckled at me. “And this Abby girl?” Duan asked after he was done laughing at me. “Yeah man, you froze up all up the other day when you walked into her.” Henry joined in. “She just caught me by surprise.” They looked at each other as if they weren’t happy with my reply. “Dude when someone hits you with a fist or throws you with a water balloon that you can call by surprise. Abby was just standing there looking at you with narrowed eyes.” I couldn’t help but smile when they mentioned that day. Abby was definitely something else. She definitely caught me by surprise with her witty comeback, she didn’t try to flirt with me or even tried to insult me. Instead, she stood there staring at me openly. Her eyes raking all over me. Not once did I catch those eyes shaking, they looked stable and in control. “We know that the whole cowgirl thing is getting to you and you are imaging all the things that she can do to you but you need to cut it out.” I looked at Duan with a raised eyebrow. “What the f**k are you talking about?” “You keep on zoning out on us since Abby arrived at this school, we can only guess what is going in that head of yours.” Duan said making Henry nod in confirmation. “Let me get this straight, you two knuckleheads believe that I am imaging her doing things with me that includes a bed and my bedroom?” I asked frowning. “Don’t you guys have something else to talk about instead what is going on in my mind?” I asked them. “Dude, all we care about is you leading us to victory.” “You guys are worried that if I get too much involved with this girl then my mind won’t be focused on basketball and that we will lose the season?” Both of them shrugged. “I only just met this girl.” “Yeah and that is what bothers us. You just met her and already you are acting all weird.” “Well fuck.” I started grabbing the ball from Henry’s hand and shooting it into the air and through the net. “You are worried about this girl but not Becky?” I asked confused. “You guys kept on pushing me to have something on with her.” “Yeah, well. With Becky, we know nothing is going to happen between the two of you. But with Abby, we kind of figured that she is the kind of girl you might just fall in love with.” I just looked at my two friends as if they lost their freaken minds. “That’s f*****g absurd.” “Is it really?” Henry asked. I looked at Duan who just stood there looking at me. I just met this girl and they are already drawing up this conclusion of us getting together and me giving everything up that I worked for.
