SABLE
“This is crazy!” the man beside me exclaimed while scrolling frantically through his phone.
More notification dings echoed from everyone's devices. Another update had been posted on the forum.
I immediately clicked on it.
It was a video.
A man and a woman were kissing passionately, the footage taken from an angle that showed what they were wearing but carefully hid their faces.
They were leaning against a car in the underground parking lot.
I zoomed in slightly and noticed the floor number.
F-4.
At first, I thought it was a picture of Alaric and me, but thankfully, it wasn't.
“This is huge.” A woman laughed as she nudged her friend. “Do you think we'll be able to figure out who they are based on their clothes?”
“I think so. Their colleagues will definitely recognize the outfits sooner or later.” Her friend chuckled. “Let's get to the office first before digging into it properly. This is going to shake the company for a while.”
She was right.
This was going to shake the company for weeks.
While organizing Alaric's schedules and meetings before, I had noticed he frequently met with several public figures. The company was also preparing to launch its newest product into the market.
Leighton Biotech had always maintained a spotless reputation.
For something like this to surface right before a major product launch was extremely risky.
'Alaric is going to be furious when he sees this. I wonder what he's going to do about it.”
The moment that thought crossed my mind, I quickly shook my head and lightly slapped my cheek.
Be professional and never cross the line.
With a scandal like this happening, Alaric was already a ticking time bomb on his own.
I knew very well he wouldn't hesitate to fire me, and that was something I never wanted to happen.
The elevator doors slid open, and everyone rushed out toward their various offices.
I stepped out calmly, turning left as my heels clicked against the floor.
While everyone else was busy trying to figure out who the couple in the video was, I was more concerned about staying as professional and distant as possible until this entire issue was resolved.
“You're early today.”
Christina's voice sounded from ahead of me, making me lift my head.
She stood there staring at me curiously.
“What happened?”
I immediately looked down at my stomach, checking to see if my wound had reopened beneath my clothes.
Everything was fine.
When I looked back at Christina, I realized she wasn't worried at all.
“Nothing happened.” I frowned.
She rolled her eyes. “Something obviously happened for you to come to work this early before Alaric.”
Wait…
Alaric wasn't in the office yet?
“That means he hasn't seen the post.” I muttered, my eyes widening slightly.
“Seen what post?” Christina demanded immediately.
“The one on the forum. Check it.” I started walking toward my office while pulling out my phone. “Do you know where he is?”
“You're the assistant,” she replied with a snort.
I smiled dryly before clicking on Alaric's number.
Placing the phone against my ear, I pushed open the door to my office.
As usual, it was empty and quiet.
I placed my purse on the desk before sitting down in my chair and turning toward my computer.
The phone rang for a while before he finally answered.
“Is there a problem?”
His calm voice came from the other end, rough and slightly deep like he had just woken up.
Um… rude.
I had originally planned to let him discover the post himself, but since he chose to answer like that, I might as well tell him directly.
“Yes, Mr. Leighton,” I replied professionally. “Please check the company's forum.”
A tired sigh escaped him before the line went silent.
I assumed he was already checking it.
Several seconds passed before another long sigh left his lips, and this time I could clearly hear the frustration in it.
“We'll discuss this when I return to the office. Contact Audit Team Three before I get to the company.”
“Understood, Mr. Leighton.”
The call ended immediately afterward.
I slowly lowered my phone onto the desk and released a soft sigh.
After leaning back in my chair for a few seconds, I grabbed the company's office phone and contacted the manager of Audit Team Three. They were responsible for handling situations like this within the company.
How could something like this enter the forum without being reviewed properly first?
I also contacted the manager of the Information Team, refusing to leave them out of this mess.
Several minutes later, the door to my office opened.
A man and a woman stepped inside.
The woman had a short bob haircut, sharp eyes, and pale lips. She wore a fitted suit paired with long black formal pants and high heels, though they still weren't enough to match the height of the man standing beside her.
The man looked completely different from her.
He was skinny, with prominent cheekbones pressing against his pale skin. His eyes were sunken, and his glasses barely rested properly on the bridge of his nose.
“Good morning, uh… Sable. I'm Helen, the manager of Audit Team Three,” the woman introduced herself.
But the moment I heard her name, I froze slightly.
How could she share the same name as that devil?
“And I'm Davison. You called for me,” the man introduced himself quietly.
I leaned forward, placing both hands on top of the desk.
“Yes, I did. In fact, the CEO personally ordered me to bring you...” I pointed toward Helen. “...here. But Davison, I believe you should have a very good explanation for why that post was approved and allowed onto the forum.”
“The CEO?” Helen's eyes widened slightly. “I've already begun investigating both the couple in the video and the person responsible for posting it.”
“Don't you know who made the post, Davison?” I questioned sharply.
He slowly shook his head while meeting my gaze.
“No. The post was uploaded using a non-existent account.”
