Revelation

After checking the things inside my room and trying to get familiar of my new surroundings I found myself lost in my thoughts staring at the window. There are so many things I wish I knew and things I wish I never knew. Everything is a mess and I don't know what has happened to our kingdom and the innocent lives that got involved in this mess. I heard a knock on my door and quickly opened it to see Stephan standing and all he said was that Lane wanted to talk so I followed him into Lane's office. Lane was sitting holding some papers and he seems to be carefully analyzing it. He put down the paper as soon as he saw us coming and he set aside all of the things on his table. "Elise, I believe I owe a ton of explanation. If there is anything you have in mind you may ask." he said smiling at me. "Why did you left?" those words came out so sudden but he doesn't seem surprise that it's my first question. "I know I was wrong. I had to choose at that time and I felt like I needed to choose my self so I did. Back then I know father would have done what he has done now and if only mother believed me both of you will be here with me." he said looking so down probably having some flashbacks. "About what Lane? Just tell me everything!" I hate that I have to ask everything why don't he just tell the whole story. "Hmm... it started even before we were born. Our family took something that wasn't ours to have. King Gregory our great great grandfather on mothers side dethroned his friend Elder Apolo the one who was supposed to inherit the throne of the Kingdom of Sycamore. The thing is if you have guessed by now Elder Apolo was from a tribe and King Gregory who was a Prince by that time insisted that tribe leaders should remain in their tribes and are not fit to inherit the throne. A challenge was carried out to both heirs to the throne to determine who is the rightful one. Elder Apolo won and the council never doubted they made the right choice. To celebrate the victory the tribe of Elder Apolo shared a feast with everyone inviting other kingdoms. Gregory cannot accept his defeat and used the tribe's famous poison lily to kill Elder Apolo. So he was crowned king because he managed to frame someone up for his crimes but everyone clearly suspected him they just lacked evidence to prove his deeds." "So, Stephan was right" I glanced at him and he seemed lost in thoughts too "They were doing this for revenge. How about a father what's up with him?" I asked for itching to know why my father acted in such a manner. "Father had never loved mother. He used her to gain back the throne and wait till mother dies for the tribe to move into the castle and as for me he wanted me dead but he sees you differently. The tribe wanted back what was theirs but father wanted more it won't be long till another war strikes there that's why I decided you come live here with me. Father wants to marry you to different kingdoms and take those kingdoms for himself. It was his perfect plan going smoothly as he made me believe I was doing everything for the kingdom but turns out that was his plan for me too and when I disagreed and went to mother she never believed me and I was hunted down by father's men. Luckily I was able to cover up and fake my own death." Lane stood up and approached me probably sensing the emotions surging in me. "I... I can't believe this Lane! Father did this to us?! Mother, she died in his arms. He's evil Lane! we should talk to the tribe and maybe.." I spoke while crying Lane hugged me "Elise I know you're hurt and upset but right now there's nothing we can do" he said while stroking my hair. "But, Lane all those innocent people left in the kingdom" I said still sobbing. "She's right Lane! I have people there too. My family, I need to save them!" Stephan stood up and seemed to be anxious. I understand him I would be worried too if I had family left there. "We can't do anything for now. You both should listen to me and I promise I would do my best to own up to my mistakes this time and I won't disappear like before." he said reassuring us both and I guess it was like he was saying it more to himself than to us. We had dinner together and it was awfully quite as everyone cannot find the right words to talk about and we're all seem at lost with all the revelation. After dinner I excused my self and left them they might have some things to discuss on their own. I went up stairs pacing back and forth on my room" Stephan's POV. It was so quiet until Elise asked to leave first she seemed so down and I understand her. I feel so mad at his father for doing all that to her and at the thought of marrying her off to other kingdoms. I'm glad I was the first to be invited and I was able to help take her out of that possible horrible future that awaits her. "What do we do now, Lane?" I asked him now that Elise is not here we can talk about other matters especially since we're both crowned prince before and we're good friends. "We are not doing anything for now, Stephan. I sent someone to go look for you family I will let you know everything once I got some leads about them." he responded "Elise would want to go back" I said staring at him trying to figure out what he was thinking but it seemed years had brought me far apart from the man I was once so closed with. I cannot read him at all and there's a lot that changed about him. "I will not allow her. She would love it here and I will show her that she belongs here. Thank you for taking care of my sister but I can take it from here. If there's anything else you know where to find me." with that Lane stood up and left the kitchen. Soon after I, too went up to my room and as I was passing by the hallway the door of Elise's room opened and I rushed towards her as soon as I saw her in tears. "What's wrong Elise?" I asked gently stroking her back. I went in her room and closed the doors behind us. "My father he'll come and get me and he will kill us" she said sobbing at my chest as I hugged her tightly. She looked so fragile and cute at the same time it makes me want to cherish her more. "You don't have to worry okay? We're very far from him and you have me and Lane now" I said while I set her back to her bed holding her hands and wiping her tears. "Can you stay?" she asked in low sleepy voice. "I won't go anywhere, My Princess" I responded leaning down to kiss her forehead she smiled in return while tapping the empty space beside her gesturing for me to lay down beside her and I did. She snuggled closely to me inhaling my scent as I inhaled hers. We relaxed at the touch of each other and soon she was fast asleep.
