cry of mystery

Soma didn't have much to complain about the robes. She took all even mine. But I was still sad. I was so disoriented by the news I just got. My mom and dad also wanted me dead. My parents have always acted weirdly toward me and my twin but I never thought they would want to kill me. They have always been afraid of the fact that I'm a vampire breed, never been vocal about killing or doing away with me. "You demon, we're all cursed but yours is different." One of my workmates announced to the other mutilanis as we got into the slave house. "She's a were-vampire!... Don't associate with her!" He continued to announce. There was a loud murmuring of people expressing their hate on me. I get it, I'm a rare cursed breed. People can accept breeds from other species but not from vampires and I don't know why. And secondly, I'm just as half-breed as them why would they hate me like I'm the devil. Tears began to stream down my eyes again. I was deceived and betrayed by my mate into this miserable mutilani life, I just heard my parents want me dead. Now, I'm being hated and feared amongst the rejected. I quickly ran to a corner to cry away my misery. I don't know what I've done wrong to deserve all this. I was good with everyone a few hours ago, only to wake up to this miserable life. I wish the heavens could take my life at this moment. "Hey dear! Don't be too sad..." I heard a familiar voice while crying with my head bent over my knees as I sat on the ground in a corner. I raised my weary frustrated head to know who it was, and it was Luff, the weird guy from earlier. Susie was with him as well. "It's just the normal drill, they will get used to you soon," Luff said "We're all cursed from birth, you're no different okay? Don't worry, you'll be fine." He continued patting me on my shoulders with both his hands. "Ariel, just rest for tonight. I don't think we'd be given any more work today, tomorrow will be a better day. It's just the first day of mutilani trauma, trust me you'll get used to it soon." Susie said as she walked out. It was just me and Luff there as everyone retired to their respective dorms. I didn't even realize it was night until I could hear the croaks of frogs and the whispers of the night. "Don't you want to know where you're going to sleep tonight? C'mon, let me show you to the dorm." He said while helping me up from the ground. Now that I think of it, those useless guards didn't even do a proper introduction or tour. I'm just left to figure out everything myself. Luff walked me to the dorm, it was a large stinking hall with bunk beds everywhere. Mutilanis were almost everywhere, I don't think I would even get a space here. And wait... Do they all sleep together both male and female? "Don't worry Ariel... I've got a space for you. It's beside my bed." Luff said as he dragged me to his bedside. He showed me an empty bed that had been used because I could see dirt and mould all over the bed. "Are you sure I can take this? This looks like someone occupies here already." I asked Luff. "Yeah, it was occupied up until two days ago, but you can have it, he's not coming back for it," Luff said as he adjusted himself onto his bed beside the empty one. "He's not coming back again? What happened to the occupant?" I asked out of curiosity. "He died in a battle. He was among the mutilani warriors protecting the alpha from intruders. They are always the first to get killed." Luff explained. That was heartbroken to hear, all these horrible things we have to face because people don't like our kind. What kind of world is this? Why can't we all be equal and love ourselves genuinely? "Ariel you've to take the bed or else you will sleep on your hard cold floor all night. And tomorrow, another mutilani might be here with us, and I can't promise you this bed to be free again." Luff explained while he lay peacefully on his bed. I wondered how he could live so unbothered knowing that his corner-mate just died. Does he even have a heart for empathy and sympathy? "Luff, how can you live at peace here in this miserable world? Don't you feel sad, angry, mad for your circumstance?" I asked him as I sluggishly lay on the empty bed. "As I told you earlier, I'm a mutilani of hope..." He said but I immediately cut him. "...What hope? There isn't anyone hope. No one is coming to save any of us, don't you know this has been practice for ages? How can you hold on to something that isn't possible." I replied to him in anger and sadness as I began to cry again. "Ariel... I'm half-breed like you and everyone else. But do you know why I'm different? I'm a were-human, and humans have hope." Luff said "And so... Hope doesn't get you anywhere." I continued. "It does there... It sure does..." He said while he smiled a bit. He explained about all other realms, and why they were hated so much by the werewolf kind. From banshees to dragons to sirens, to beastkind and all other realm kinds that breed with the wolf kind. A long time ago, they coexisted peacefully until breeds started showing uncommon strengths and abilities. Then some used that against the world causing a rift amongst all kinds leading to much bloodshed and destruction. A consensus was finally reached and all kinds decided to live in separate realms to be barricaded by magical barriers. But the sins of our ancestors lived on as wolves kept on giving birth to breeds generations after generations. But Luff explained that the humans were the most intelligent and unpredictable. They had no superpowers or strengths like other realms, but they would survive and even kill more than other kinds. "How is that possible?" I asked Luff out of curiosity. "Because, they are smart, intelligent, wise and all... But, their hope of defeating the strongest is their greatest power." He explained Now I get, that their unpredictability and strength in battle are fueled by the hope of winning. "So how does that save you?" I asked him. "People can't change, that's why we can't get help. But hope changes all things. The unexpected turn of events can save us... You see, that's the power of humans." He went on and on and finally talked about vampires, my breed species. "...But your species is different from all. They had the powers of immortality and therefore wanted to kill all and reign supreme before the consensus was held. If not the consensus, the vampires would have wiped us all with the help of the tremendous powers of the vampire breed... I guess that's why they hate you so much." He explained in great detail. I was amazed by his deep knowledge of history like he was part of every single thing that played out. And more so, I felt shocked to hear about the horrible and vile nature of my vampire breed. "Am I really that powerful? Would I have continued from where my ancestors stopped? Was that the very reason why I was turned to a mutilani to avoid the unknown?" I said to myself as I turned my head to face the bunk above me in deep thought. "Luff, but..." I wanted to ask him one more question as I turned to him, but he was already fast asleep. I guess this question is for another day.
