Episode 2 - What Should I Do? Part 1

It is already ten in the morning and the boss still did not show up to work. I am starting to worry. What if something happened to him? He is not usually late to work. He is very punctual. What am I going to do? Should I call him? I think it is better to wait for him. 

All of a sudden, I could see someone sprinting to the boss’s office. I immediately went to check who it was. When I entered the room, there was the boss himself sitting on the chair with a worried face talking on his phone. I was turning around to go to my desk but I heard my name being called. 

“Gina, please stay. I will be with you in a minute.”, my boss said.

I nodded at him and sat down on the sofa. I was staring at the floor. I did not know what to do until I felt the sofa dip beside me.

“Gina, I need to talk to you. It is very important.”, my boss said. 

“What do you want to talk about?”, I asked my boss. 

“Well, I really do not know how to deliver this news. First of all, I want to say that you are a very hard-working person and I really enjoy working with you. However, this is your last day at work. Please be aware that this is my last day at work and your job is no longer needed here.”, my boss said with a sad face. 

“What?! My last day? How am I going to pay my rent? I need this job! Can you arrange something?” I asked my boss with tears flowing on my face.

“Sorry, I tried...if my new job will allow me to have a new assistant I will surely hire you but no promises. I think it is best to go and start clearing your desk. For lunch break, we are going out to eat in a restaurant for our last day at work.”, my boss said.

“Okay...I will”, I said and with that I went straight to my desk. 

I could not stop thinking about the sad news whilst clearing my office space. What should I do? Looking for another job? Going home to visit my mother? I really do not know what to do. I wish life was simple with no worries.

“Are you done? It is already lunch break.”, my boss said. 

“Yes, I am done. Are we coming back here?” I asked.

“No, I can drop you off at your home”, my boss said.

I grabbed my bags and left with him. My boss took me to a restaurant in Waterfront and after a while, as he promised, he drove to my house.
