Of course, in order to pull off this whole “staying with Beau thing,” I’ll need to bring in my brother to check on our mom, and honestly, I’m really dreading the conversation. Dane lives in midtown Atlanta, not so far away as to be another country, but with all the traffic and hours he works, it might as well be. Mom and I are lucky if we see him every few months.
Sometimes I feel like this is my fault. I should reach out more. I should plan more things for us to do. But the last few years have felt awkward, and I keep letting it slip. I think part of me keeps hoping he’ll notice, and when he doesn’t, my feelings get hurt. Stupid, yes, but I can’t seem to stop. Our dad left when we were little. Dane and my mom are all I have.
