The woods' flame

1977 Words
Hidden in the woods, a young man was putting his extraordinary werewolf vision to the limit. He wished he could see the fight from closer as it was getting truly interesting. No one could deny both she-wolves were doing quite well but Elara seemed more flexible, more agile and learned quicker from her opponent’s weak points, easily dodging her sudden displays of brute force. The uninvited watcher was infatuated by the princess. He could see from his spot her red-as-fire hair trying to escape from her knot, rumpling with each kick, the fair skin of her arms glowing on the morning sun, her fit body swinging with every movement. If he concentrated, he could also smell her scent, a mixture of wild berries and blue roses, a very rare scent among she-wolves but it suited her perfectly. However, the most fascinating feature of the young princess was her aura. It could be felt like a ray of full moonshine that made you want to lay around and rest, all your worries dissipated. No way everyone loved her and wished her to become queen soon.     “Not if I can avoid it” he whispered. He was determined to have her for himself. Just for himself. He wanted her so badly he got angry at the thought of other male wolf touching her.     “Is that the dammed wreck?” The feminine sharp voice sounded disgusted but he didn’t care at all.     “She is”. That was his cold answer. He didn’t even turn to look at the woman beside him, his eyes proudly following each of Elara’s movements. The woman, who was visibly annoyed, slightly caressed the man’s back, feeling his warmth along with that tingling sensation that his skin always produced on her. She loved he sight of his naked body.     “I don’t know why you wanted to come so close to the palace before tonight, it’s such a stupid risk you’re taking. She’s only a useless brat, don’t worry anymore, she will be easy to capture” She spit out with an evil smile on her face. As he did not utter a word or even took a glance at her, she said with a soft, enticing tone. “Come with me, my love, we must prepare for tonight’s wonderful party”     The young man got rid of her touch with a rough growl. He quickly shapeshifted and run through the forest without paying any attention to her. The woman clenched her jaw, looking at Elara with bursting rage. She hadn’t met the princess in person but she already hated her to the core. She loathed how her mate looked at her, how he talked about her abilities and mostly how he wanted to keep her alive despite being his main obstacle to reach his vengeance. She wished she affected him the same way the princess did. As a blow of sadness and despair run through her veins, sour bile filled her mouth. She raised her hand and a blue fireball appeared upon it. The woman was trying hard to keep it from reaching her target, her whole body was shaking. She took a deep breath and tried to compose herself, the fireball slowly fading. She gave a last glance at Elara and vanished within a blink of an eye.     Meanwhile, Elara was still in the middle of the fight. She started playing with Lillian, letting her approach first and dodging all of her hard punches and kicks. She knew Lillian was stronger than her so if she managed to reach any of her limbs, she will disable her. No, Elara would wait until her adversary got tired and then, she will take the opportunity. After ten minutes of defending herself, she launched a high kick directed to her Lillian’s neck but she reached her chest instead, pushing her back just a little. She saw Lillian gasp badly for air, rivers of sweat spread all over her face. At that moment, Elara realized that it was her time. However, the young princess suddenly saw a shiny blue light coming from the forest in front of her. Her wolf immediately felt the danger and wanted to go there. In that split of a second, Lillian took advantage of Elara’s lack of attention and punched her hard on her stomach, making her lose stability. Lillian then took her arm and twisted it to her back, kicked her calves and made her fall, finally pinning her to the ground. Elara felt a huge pain running through her whole body.     “Hahaha!” Lillian’s wicked laugh reached everyone’s ears. Some members of the audience looked disappointed while others, like Alex, were bursting out with anger. He took one step towards Elara to help her get rid of Lillian’s grip as she was taking a long time to release her. “Did you think for a single minute you could defeat me, you stupid dog?” The she-wolf shouted, her grip not loosing a bit. “You’re a great loser, a shame for a princess!”     But Elara was not hearing her words anymore as her wolf had already taken control. She was feeling threatened but she couldn’t see what it was or who it was. Then, the familiar noise of cracking bones rumbled and the young princess took her silvery white wolf form, ripping out her clothes. The royal wolf made a menacing growl and pushed Lillian with all her animal strength. Lillian landed ten meters far from the battleground and a loud scream of pain thundered in the air. Elara’s wolf quickly got up and run to the place where she saw that strange blue flame. She tried to catch a smell or look for a trace but she found nothing. Her wolf was quite nervous and made a long howl.     The warriors answered their master’s call and hurriedly joined her, worried. They looked everywhere, searching for any signs of danger but everything was calm, as usual. The patrols did not report anything out of place as well. Oswald also arrived beside her and pressed his hand on Elara’s nape, making her take a seat, like if he was scolding a naughty dog. He lifted his head to scan the woods nearby and then lowered his gaze back to look at Elara. The white wolf was whimpering, shaking her head to get rid of his grab. Oswald frowned and handed her a pair of jeans and a shirt.     “Shapeshift” His tone was serious but his mind seemed far away.     The royal wolf emitted a plaintive grunt, lowered her head and let Elara regain control of herself again. She took the clothes on her mouth and went behind a near tree to change. When the woman came out, Lillian was the first to speak, she had a wide cut on her back and lots of scratches on her limbs. She was walking towards Elara limping.     “You f*****g wrecked b…”     “Enough you two!” Oswald yelled, really fed up of their rivalry. Everyone flinched at his command and Lillian did not dare to add a single word. “Elara, you broke the rules of the fight by using your wolf to defend yourself from your opponent. Tomorrow, you will have to fulfil your punishment. Go now”. Elara wanted to complain but Oswald glared at her so the princess clenched her fists and straightened herself, feeling her pride hurt and hardly repressing her tears. She gave a last glance at Lillian; victory was reflected on her face.     “And Lillian” Oswald said while taking out his shirt. “Tomorrow you will have to fulfil your punishment as well for not respecting a defeated opponent”. Lillian’s jaw dropped open. She was ready to protest when another she-wolf stopped her from making more trouble. The group could feel their trainer’s worried expression. Putting his attention on the nearest trees, Oswald ended the training and dismissed everyone there. He called for some experienced warriors and disappeared deep into the woods without adding anything else.     Elara walked out of the training grounds with a sour face. When she was out sight, her tears began running free. She was scolding her inner wolf for acting so recklessly for nothing and ashamed both of them in front of the rest of the warriors. This defeat had made look her weak when she wasn’t, she knew she wasn’t. She was repeating herself those words into her mind when a pair of strong arms hugged her from behind, dragging her into a small courtyard. Alex’s grey eyes appeared in front of her.     “Babe, I can’t bear to see you cry. Please”. He gently removed the tears from her face with his fingers. “Don’t listen to Lillian. She’s and envious evil b***h. You’re perfect as you are and you’ll be a great queen, I’m completely sure of that”     Elara faintly smiled at his words. “Thank you, Alex” She moved from inside his arms and took a few steps ahead of him. “I wasn’t crying for Lillian. I… I don’t know what happened, my wolf went crazy and I lost control of her” The princess closed her eyes and wrapped her arms around her chest. “We felt…scared”.     Alex quickly reacted to her words, worried. “Scared? Scared of what?”     Elara could feel his wolf getting overprotective towards her. “I don’t know, it was just an odd sensation”. She was not sure if she should tell Alex about the blue light. Even she wasn’t really sure of what she saw herself. But if it was nothing, why would her wolf turn out of control so madly? And why Oswald seemed so concerned? He acted as if nothing had happened but he went to search the woods anyway. She had to meditate about it, maybe she should ask Palvin or her father later. But no, Alex must not know. Not for now.     “Nobody will harm you. Not while we’re here. Not while I’m here” He stepped in front of her and held her against his chest. Elara felt his warm body against hers and blushed, overwhelmed. He separated a bit and Elara closed her eyes, waiting for his kiss. His lips slowly caressed hers, slowly and sweetly, pouring all his feelings on it, comforting her. It was a loving kiss, so different from those they usually shared. Elara always thought their relationship was a game, always taunting each other, skipping classes to have fun, searching for secret places to make love. But she felt this kiss meant something else, something for what she wasn’t prepared. She ended the kiss, thoroughly flustered. He grinned, his eyes never left hers, his grip not loosing.     “Elara, will you give me the honour to dance with you tonight? As I said before, I have to talk to you about a… little big issue?” He whispered on her lips.     “Of course. But…what is it?”     “Tonight you will know”     “Tell me now, don’t leave me waiting” She pouted.     He smiled playfully. “I said tonight, it’s not even midday!”     “Oh gosh! You’re so irritating”     “And you are a very impatient princess”     She frowned at him and tried to escape from his embrace but he held her even closer. He still had that seductive grin on her face Elara could never resist. She laughed and began kissing him again, this time a more deep, passionate and hotter kiss. Their tongues were entwining and claiming for more. Alex let a hand under her shirt, going up to her breasts, warming her skin on his path. She moaned in pleasure while he kissed and licked her ear, her neck... He lifted her by her waist and nailed her against the wall behind them. She grabbed her legs around his waist, feeling his hardness inside his pants. They always ended up this wild and Elara loved so. Suddenly, a very well-known voice resonated in Elara’s head, making her flinch. Alex looked at her out of breath with a mixture of confusion and arousal.     Lady Elara, your books are not going to be read by themselves.     “Oh, holy s**t!” She cursed. It was Palvin.
