The meeting ticked along nicely as both sides brought forth their information and thoughts about the current Vargul situation.
I just sat back and listened and absorbed as much as I could. Just because I was no longer in active duty, didn't mean I had to ignore it all.
Well, as the Archivio liked to say, knowledge is power.
Apparently there has been strange activity and behaviour from the Vargul recently by both settlements and so they began discussing plans of attack.
The mountains were to our left, about a couple of days ride and that is where the Vargul 'lived.'
Their numbers at the Mount were growing by the day and both Councils were worried they would soon attack as a horde.
The whole time, I was acutely aware of the strange man seated down the far end of us. He hadn’t moved or said anything the whole time, heck, I wasn't even sure why he was in the meeting. I stole a few glances at him every now and then but he was just daydreaming in his seat.
I guess he didn't like what he saw, I sighed to myself, slightly disappointed.
Only slightly.
After a couple of hours, they decided to continue on Monday and visit the Medic Corp and the other facilities then.
They would spend Sunday to recover and freshen up from their trip and probably discuss their next moves as a settlement.
Good timing too because I had the beginnings of a blistering headache.
I stood, stretching my arms up and yawned as I gave a little grunt. Gus was immersed in what seemed like an interesting conversation so I gave him a little peck on the cheek and left.
I slipped out the door before anyone could stop me and made my way to the refreshments table by the exit.
I downed my cup of water and reached for another as I massaged my temples.
I drank deeply, closing my eyes.
Damn, that was a long meeting, I groaned to myself.
And just as I opened my eyes, I was met with cautious yet curious ones. Beautiful hazel lights stared back at me, captivating me and I couldn't help but feel lost in them. The 'muscle' as I had come to call him stood around 6ft tall in a tight brown t-shirt with black army pants and boots.
Staring at him, I was mesmerised and it was almost like he wasn't real. Was it even possible for someone to look so...perfect??
His nose was sharp and sat between high cheekbones and he had a strong jaw with pink lips but it was set in a slight frown. I looked up at his raven black hair that looked so silky and thick and then I rested on his eyes.
His eyes were the most beautiful things I'd ever seen.
They had a dark outer rim then shifted into a soft green with big flecks of gold and brown and they stood out against his light olive skin. They were slightly hooded which made them give off a sexy yet deadly aura.
I dont think ive ever seen someone so strikingly handsome before. But then again - there aren't many people around to see.
Before I could think any further, my mouth opened on its own and blurted out loudly, "ummm hi."
He took a step forward and seemed to take a deep breath.
"Animus meus," he whispered deeply.
I felt something stir deep within my gut from hearing the sound of his voice.
"Hmm?"
He just looked at me questioningly and repeated himself, "Animus meus."
Oh god.
What if he doesn't speak english!?
"I..I'm sorry, I don't understand what that means?", I looked at him apologetically.
He stared at me, looking very taken aback. He stepped forward again and reached his hand out to touch mine but we were interrupted by a shadowed figure at the door.
"Andy."
…………
(Unknown)
We both turned to face the newcomer and I didn't bother hiding my disdain.
"Saleem?"
Saleem? What is HE to her??
He glanced at me disapprovingly and went to stand by her side, putting his hand on her back.
I felt my fists tighten and Amicus began to stir.
"Andy, I was just passing by on my way to collect some things from food storage and I saw you from the outside. Sorry, I didn't know you had company?" and he turned to look at me, frowning.
She looked a little uncomfortable standing so close to him and she kept glancing at me as if she was nervous.
"Uhh yeah, we just finished a Council meeting with the Archivio and I was about to head home. Did you need something?", she said, overly bright.
Over my shoulder, Damon and the rest of the group started filling up the room and he came to stand beside me, popping fried snacks into his mouth.
This ‘Saleem’ guy continued to ignore us and asked, "want me to walk you home? It's not that far from storage?"
She put her cup down and shook her head. "Oh no, that's okay. I'm in a bit of a rush and just need to go lie down. But I'll see you at six o'clock at the pub?"
He looked slightly disappointed, much to my pleasure and just gave her a nod before letting her go.
She turned to leave but looked back and gave Damon and I a little smile. "I'll see you around," she waved and was gone.
Saleem watched her go, gave us a nod and then left in the opposite direction.
I didn't realise, but my heart was beating fast and I slowly covered it with my hand.
"What was that all about? How do you know the Huntress?", Damon asked while now catching grapes in his mouth.
"The Huntress?"
"Yeah that's her. You know, the one who the elders at Terra settlement nicknamed the Huntress for kicking a lot of Vargul and Lycan ass?"
I shook my head and he scoffed in mock unbelief.
I just rolled my eyes and signalled for him to follow me outside so that others wouldn't hear.
We watched her trudge along, swinging her hips down the path, almost running. I started to feel a little guilty as I think I may have startled her.
Not taking my eyes off of her, I spoke low and clear. "You cannot repeat what I am about to tell you. Ever."
He caught my tone and looked at me, nodding.
"Amicus awoke."
He turned to stare at me, frowning. "What, during the day??"
"He awoke and said to me 'Non est anima mea. Animus meus'", I spoke, using our Lycan tongue.
His jaw dropped and I would have laughed if this wasn't so serious. He was left speechless and I signalled for us to go back inside.
I turned for one last look at this mysterious Huntress woman called ‘Andy’ and then followed Damon in.
Well….atleast I know where she will be at 6'oclock.
