I was about to put away my phone, the pack news feed from Shadowgate Group still glowing on the screen, when a soft knock sounded at the door.
My gaze lifted, eyes narrowing slightly as I recognized the visitor.
Stella Xavier entered with a gentle smile that didn't reach her eyes. To me, it felt entirely insincere, practiced to perfection like everything else about her.
"Evelyn, Adrian mentioned you fainted last night and were brought here. Are you alright?" Her voice was honey-sweet with concern.
I kept my expression neutral, refusing to show how her presence affected me. "Unfortunately, it's just the lingering effects of the allergy. Sorry to disappoint you."
