MASON'S POV:
I pace back and forth in my room while my wolf claws at my insides. He has been relentless like this from the moment we first saw her. This is the exact reason I can’t have a mate; it is just a big distraction! I do not need an obligation to anyone besides my pack.
My wolf has chosen her, without even asking her damn name! He is blinded by her beauty. I groan loudly and plop down on my bed, cursing the Moon God for giving me a human mate. What the hell is this; some kind of joke? Cursing that I even crossed paths with my mate!
I do not need a mate, I do not need her.
This is the exact reason I have to shut my wolf out and strip him of his wish. I am a monster; a killer, no human is safe around a pack of wolves. If she only knew the truth about me, about our kind, then she would be running, shaking with fear. The thought alone makes me cackle.
My nightly bar visits are stopping tonight. I shouldn’t have kept going back in the first place.
What happened to rejecting your mate the moment you see her i***t?
I only continued to go back to the bar with hopes that it will put my wolf at ease, but leaving every night seems to make him even more agitated. It stops tonight!
I can’t go back there, Cole is throwing a pack barbeque to celebrate a few pack members' graduation from the local college. It's just the distraction I need.
My wolf just needs to be reminded of the fun we can have without a mate. I'll find someone else to distract me tonight, and show him the joys of having a single, unattached life.

Instant Regret.
The music is blaring while the packhouse fills with people coming in and out. The once clean, nothing out-of-place main room is now filled to the brim with people and red solo cups. I decide to take a seat by the bonfire that is in the center of the backyard; just far enough from the action. Parties have never been my thing, as much as they are Cole’s. I smile with a small laugh as my brother makes his way through the crowd fist-bumping and high-fiving people on his way over to me. His blonde hair is brushed back and excitement shows in his blue eyes. What a tool.
“Did you greet all your fans?” I joke just as he makes it to me.
He laughs, “Whatever, dude. It's better than sitting on the sidelines with that sour face. Not very approachable there, Mace.” I take the bottle of beer he hands me as he takes a swig of his own before sitting in the chair next to mine.
“You have been more tense than usual. Anything I should be worried about?”
I give him a sideways glance with a look of disgust on my face, “Look at you trying to have a heart-to-heart. Anything on your mind brother?” I shoot back.
“You’re an ass, you know that? Get up, enjoy the party, and go get laid!”
Cole gets up to leave when I start to observe how packed this party is. Where in hell did he find all of these people anyway?
As If he were reading my mind he turns back and says “I put a few flyers up around the local college campus” he winks at the scowl on my face. “Go big or go .... " he starts "You know what, never mind” he runs off and gets lost in the crowd.
This is just like him, drawing attention to the pack when my main focus is to keep to ourselves!

I stop a few pack members on the way inside about how we need to be sharp on watch duty; so we know the territory is safe and no Rogue wolves are snooping around. This is my Alpha way of telling them not to get too shitfaced tonight. It’s a party, but we still have a reputation to uphold.
This party was not a good distraction. I try to focus on the conversations in front of me, but my mind keeps going elsewhere. I should just slip out and head to the bar. I’m sure she is there. I wouldn’t be surprised if the human lived there! One look and my wolf will calm. That's it, I just need to see her.
I head to the door ready to leave just as Cole makes his way to me with a smug smile and a brunette on each arm. Both women are tall and slender; built like supermodels. Stunning enough to catch any man's eye. But not mine, not anymore. Every time I try to find someone else attractive I find myself comparing them to her.
“One for each of us brother.” He says as the taller brunette slips out from Cole's arm strutting closer to me.
Halfway through the conversation, I find myself scrutinizing her looks; cheap red lipstick, and a skin-tight red dress. She rubs her hands up and down my chest as she speaks, and I honestly block out the whole conversation. My mate is clouding my mind, I wonder what she would wear to a party like this, maybe we would sit and laugh at these cheap women together.
Anger rises from within me when I notice she is taking over my thoughts again! This is the whole point, I need to get her out of my head, and this distraction will have to do.
“What do you say we get out of here?” I cut off the brunette who won't stop her cheap attempts at flirting. “Oh, I would like that.” Her smile grows wide and her eyes just as big, showing just how desperate she is for me.
“What is your name again?” I ask as I grab her by the wrist, pulling her up the stairs, and towards my bedroom. No one can say that I’m not a gentleman. “Maya” she replies as we make our way into the room, I shut my door behind us.
Yanking Maya close, I crash my lips to hers, trying to drown out the images of my mate from my treacherous mind but all I see are big hazel eyes and I feel like I am betraying her.
I groan loudly in frustration before floating our entwined bodies closer to the bed, I push her onto her knees in front of me. Maya looks up with a glimmer in her eye and unbuttons my jeans, dropping them to the ground.
Her wet lips take me in whole, she’s stroking me with her hand, and in and out of her mouth showing just how skilled she is. But I’m not as hard as I should be, this should have been doing it for me, as if sensing my frustration Maya picks up her speed.
That’s when I smell it, the sweet earthy lavender scent. Oh god, the smell is clouding my senses, intoxicating me with lust and hunger. I grab a handful of Maya's hair and push her head so she is forced to swallow more of me; I can hear her choking but I keep up the pace.
The smell seems to be getting stronger. After a few more strokes from Maya's mouth, my bedroom door swings open. I find myself staring into the hazel eyes I can't shake, the now shocked hazel eyes of my mate. Her eyes alone send me over the edge; without breaking eye contact, a moan sounds in the back of my throat as I c*m inside Maya's mouth.
