The Pink Clip

Awakened

"Wake up, Steffi. I said don't you ever sleep!"

I opened my eyes and realized that I was just dreaming. Again.

I wished I didn't wake up.

I really wished I didn't.

Waking up is a nightmare.

My life is a nightmare.

Reality is a nightmare.

My mom is a nightmare.

Except him...

"Sonia! What the hell are you doing?!"

Daddy came rushing into me.

Dad...

I cannot find my voice.

All I can do is cry and cry, and shout silently.

"Are you okay, baby?"

I shook my head as tears started rolling down my cheeks. My eyes are cloudy, my vision is not well.

I'm not okay, daddy. Please help me. Please rescue me.

"How dare you Stef? She's all mine! All mine!"

His voice is inaudible, so I don't know what he's saying. All I know was daddy pulled mommy away from me. He dragged her outside the room.

I wiped the tears away and curled up in a ball.

This is not the first time mommy abused me this way.

I don't understand why, I thought she loves me. But she is always mad at me especially during nighttime and whenever daddy arrives from work.

It all started one gloomy night, where birds were resting and bats are out for hunting, mommy entered the room.

As I approached mommy to give her a kiss and a hug, I was stopped in my tracks.

Mommy looked pale like she was frightened, or angry? I'm not quite sure. I've never seen mommy with that face.

I inched slowly towards her, and asked in a timid voice, "What's wrong, mommy?"

Her eyes flared up and grabbed my arm so tight that I cried in agony.

"Mommy it hurts!"

"Shh. Don't use this."

She removed the pink clip from my hair and throw it away.

"But why mommy? I like that clip. That was the last present daddy gave to me."

"Just don't use this again. I'll buy you another one."

"No, mommy! I don't want to!"

I shook my head vigorously, I know mommy will give in to what I want.

Because I'm their princess, they will give me everything I want.

"Shut up!"

I was in total shock when a slap landed on my right face.

"Mo-mommy?"

I can't figure out what is happening. This was the very first time that mommy shouted at me and the very first time she ever laid hands on me.

Since then, her supposed to be "goodnight kisses" turned into a "nightmare" instead.
