Daniel checked his watch.
He was already late.
His phone had been ringing repeatedly, but he ignored it. Today has been exhausting. Between his work responsibilities and the pressure he had placed on himself to succeed, he barely had time to breathe.
As he hurried across the street, someone suddenly stepped in front of him.
“Oh, I'm sorry!”
Daniel stopped.
A young woman stood before him, holding several books against her chest. One of them had fallen onto the wet pavement.
Daniel quickly picked it up.
“Here you go.”
“Thank you,” she said with a smile.
Their eyes met.
For a moment, neither of them spoke.
Daniel finally smiled. “You should probably be careful. That book almost became a victim of the rain.”
She laughed.
“And you should probably watch where you're going.”
Daniel laughed too.
“My name is Daniel.”
“Sophia.”
It was only a brief introduction, but something about the moment stayed with Daniel.
Sophia looked at the time on her phone.
“I have to go.”
“Of course.”
She took the book from him and walked away.
Daniel watched her disappear into the crowd.
For reasons, he couldn't explain, he smiled.
