CHAPTER 2
To say I was broken at this point was an understatement. For the first time in my life, I finally realized what I had been in denial about, all this while. Shane never loved me, if he could be so cruel to say this hurtful words to me. Was this a mistake? Didn’t he feel the bond between us hurting with every single breath. I nodded my head and gulped hard when I saw that he wasn’t bursting out loud to say it was a joke.
“I….I…need air.” I mumbled to myself as I removed my hand from his grip and made my way numbly outside the pack house. And he didn’t even say anything or hold me back. He just let me go, like that? Well it was already how her pathetic life had been since day 1.
There was no reason why it should continue to be like this. I needed to clear my head so I quickly turned into my wolf, she was sad too and I allowed her to take the gear as she lead us into the woods and straight at the creek. We got there and stared into the water for a while before she walked into it slowly until we could sink ourselves in it. And when I rose my head up, I was naked as a human, and just allowed myself to stay in there a little while longer to clear my head.
I thought about my options; should I stay here and swallow the insults because it was going to become public notice soon, that Shirley was the mother of his kids or should I just un-mate him and leave?
Knowing Shane and how he hated me, he could claim the kids as a reason to hurt me, there is no way he was going to choose me over them so why hope in the first place. It was going to be a lot easier if I could do it quickly and leave the pack, so that Shirley wouldn’t be threatened by my presence.
“That is one of the worse ideas you had ever thought of?’ My wolf Aubrey{our spellings were not that different except the fact that I had a D in my name and she had a B}
“It is one of the choices we have and that is by far, the best choice. You know we can’t stay here any longer and now that Shane had finally gotten kids, he is going to un-mate us so he can mark Shirley fully so why wait till then, when we can do it now and the pain will be less hurtful.” I said trying to reason with my wolf. Deep down, I already knew she agreed but it was nice to have someone to argue with for a while.
“I hate the moon goddess for giving us such a terrible mate. I really thought he was going to love us after all this while but I am afraid I got my hopes up as usual.” Aubrey said as I shook my head and said,
“We got our hopes up. So what do you say, you lead us back home and let’s get this unmating over with?” I said as she took control, turning into a full fledged wolf and we made our way out of the creek, heading towards the pack, determined to get this hell over with.
But to our surprise when we got to the house, we saw my father in law Robert, waiting with a towel in his hand and a mournful look on his face. He quickly dropped the towel around Aubrey and I changed quickly wrapping the towel tightly as I said,
“What is happening?”
“Shane is gone!” Came his prompt reply.
“Gone where?” I asked completely lost, Was he dead or was he missing? Or did he run away? The last one was absurd but also quite feasible if he left with Shirley and the kids? But I didn’t include this questions.
“He just said he was going to spend the rest of his day with his “REAL” Luna and left.” Robert said air quoting the word Real.
“Oh, I see. Well I got to head inside and wear some clothes, I am feeling cold. Can we talk later?” I said as he nodded his head and stepped out of the doorway. I liked my father in law, he had always taken care of me ever since I got in the park. It was nice.
HOURS LATER
It was already twilight when I heard some crashing downstairs and the loud slurred voice of my mate reverberated through the house. Great, he was drunk again. Just what I needed. I said sarcastically rolling my eyes as I sat in front of the mirror, applying a little bit cream to my face to keep myself preoccupied as he pushed open our door and walked in with unsteady steps. I barely glanced at him as he collapsed on our bed and he removed his shoes.
“Welcome back.” I said as I stood up. It was already time for my sleep and I had on my favourite lingerie which was now a bad idea because I had expected him to sleep outside and I could have the bed to myself but now, I was going to put up with his snoring and mumbled nonsense through out the night.
“This is my house. I don’t need your permission to come back.” He said turning to face me as I replied,
“All I did was welcome you home? Anyways there is a favor I want to ask of you.”
I said preparing myself well to deliver the blow because I knew that it was going to hurt me more than it would hurt him.
“What is it now? You are just a burden? What do you want? Can’t someone else do it for you?” He said, not knowing his words were like a knife through my heart or maybe he did, and he just didn’t care.
“Don’t worry, this offer is going to be a great deal. Since you love Shirley and already had kids with her, you don’t have trouble unmating me, do you? I mean, you get to mark her again. Isn’t it wonderful.” I said with a sneer as he sat up and looked at me, probably getting a it sober by what I said.
“Are you pushing your luck woman?” He thundered at me as I took a step backwards. I wasn’t expecting that reply. Shouldn’t he be happy that I am offering him this deal? Did he mishear me?
“No I am not, I just….”
“Do you know what will happen to your precious pack if you decide to leave? It will fall. My Pack will no longer help your pack and it will be easy prey for other pack. Know this, Audrey, this mating was just a transaction, a business and nothing more. So know your place. After all you can’t do without me” He said as I was torn. This all this while was just a business deal. Well it didn’t matter anyhow because I was obstinate, I was going to leave, without or with his permission.
“I can live just fine on my own. Do not push your luck. It seems you have forgotten that I was the warrior i
n my pack.” I said crossing my hand across my chest.
