GABRIEL'S Point of view
As I jogged alongside my pack, the wind whipping through my hair, my mind was still on that girl I’d bumped into. There was something about her, a quiet strength in her eyes, something that tugged at my curiosity. I couldn’t shake the feeling, even as Candice, my girlfriend, clung to my side, her laugh echoing as the rest of the pack hooted and howled.
“Who was that girl?” I asked aloud, my gaze still on the path ahead.
Candice scoffed, her voice filled with disdain. “Why do you care? She’s nobody. Just a lowlife human who should be glad she’s even sharing the same air we breathe.”
I frowned, not liking the way she dismissed people so easily. “I’m serious, Candice. Who is she?”
Candice let out an exaggerated sigh, clearly annoyed by my persistence. “Fine. If you really need to know, she’s the security guard’s daughter or something. Her mother died years ago, protecting her from the Killmonger Alpha’s attack on the town. You know the story.”
My jaw clenched at the mention of the Killmonger pack. Those bastards. Their rogue Alpha had been terrorizing packs and towns alike for years, leaving destruction in their wake. The thought of them attacking our town stirred something dark in me. I would put an end to their reign of terror, one way or another.
“Killmonger pack,” I muttered under my breath, the anger simmering.
Richard, my best friend and Beta, clapped me on the back, pulling me from my thoughts. “Enough with the human talk, Gabriel. We’ve got your mating ceremony coming up. Time to focus on celebrating, not brooding over some random girl.”
I nodded, trying to push thoughts of the Killmonger pack—and the girl—aside. He was right. Tonight was supposed to be about my future, about Candice and our bond. Not about some human girl from town.
Candice, always eager for attention, threw her arms around my neck and kissed me, her lips soft but insistent. I kissed her back, a part of me going through the motions. She pulled away, grinning. “I can’t wait to be your Luna,” she said, her eyes gleaming with excitement. She had always wanted this—always wanted the power and status that came with being mated to an Alpha.
“I can’t wait either,” I replied, though a part of me felt a strange dissonance. My life had been mapped out for as long as I could remember—Candice as my mate, leading our pack together, defending our territory. But lately, something felt off. And that girl… I couldn’t stop thinking about her, despite how hard I tried.
Richard, always full of energy, suddenly grinned and shouted, “Last one to the mountain top is the weakest!” With a playful howl, he took off, sprinting toward the mountain trail.
The rest of the pack erupted in laughter and howls, quickly following suit. Candice tugged at my arm, but I held back, smirking. I was faster than all of them, and I liked giving them a head start, watching their smug faces turn to frustration when I eventually passed them all.
Candice darted ahead, her laughter ringing out as she ran with the others. I waited for a few moments, letting them think they had a chance, before I launched forward. The ground blurred beneath my feet as I picked up speed, the familiar rush of adrenaline coursing through me.
My wolf loved this—the freedom of the run, the wind in my ears, the strength in my muscles. I passed Candice first, her surprised yelp fading behind me as I tore up the path. Richard was next, glancing over his shoulder just in time to see me surge ahead.
“Damn it, Gabriel!” he called out, laughing. “I thought I had you this time!”
I laughed but didn’t slow down. The mountaintop was within sight, and I pushed harder, the trees whipping past me in a blur of green and brown. I could hear the others behind me, their footsteps pounding the earth as they struggled to keep up. But no one could outrun me. I was Alpha for a reason.
When I finally reached the top, I stopped, breathing heavily but exhilarated. The view was spectacular, the whole valley spread out beneath me, bathed in the soft golden light of the setting sun. The pack began to catch up, one by one, each of them panting and grinning, their competitive spirits shining through.
“You never let us win,” Richard panted, leaning over with his hands on his knees, trying to catch his breath.
“Maybe you just need to get faster,” I teased, clapping him on the back.
Candice was the last to arrive, her cheeks flushed and her chest heaving from the effort. She gave me a playful glare as she approached. “You just had to show off, didn’t you?”
I grinned, shrugging. “What’s the point of being Alpha if I can’t show off a little?”
She rolled her eyes but smiled, wrapping her arms around my waist and resting her head on my chest. “Well, as long as you’re my Alpha,” she murmured.
But even as she said it, I felt my mind drift back to that girl. The securityguard’s daughter. The one who had survived an attack by the Killmonger pack, and not just any werewolf, the alpha Ryder himself. She wasn’t just some lowlife human. She had a history, a story that intrigued me. Her mom was they when my parents were kid, I was there too, I jus have seen her, not that I remember it, I was still just a toddler then.
And the Killmonger pack… the rage I felt at their name burned hotter now. They were still out there, still a threat. My upcoming mating ceremony was important, yes, but there was a bigger fight coming. One I needed to be ready for. I couldn’t afford to be distracted, even by Candice’s smile or the pack’s celebrations.
I stared out at the horizon, my jaw tightening. The Killmonger Alpha had been allowed to roam free for too long. His pack had torn through towns and left nothing but fear and destruction in their wake. And the girl… her family had been one of their victims. That attack had happened long ago, but the scars were still fresh for the people of this town.
“Gabriel?” Candice’s voice snapped me out of my thoughts.
“Hm?”
“You alright? You’re a million miles away.”
I forced a smile, pulling her closer. “Yeah, just thinking.”
“About what?” she pressed.
“About what’s coming next,” I replied cryptically. “We need to be ready. The Killmonger pack won’t rest until they’ve taken everything.”
She frowned, clearly not thrilled by the shift in conversation, but she nodded. “You’re right. But we’ll deal with that after your mating ceremony.”
I didn’t respond. My mind was elsewhere, already preparing for the battle ahead.
I had trained for them, honed my senses and sharped my claws for Ryder, his blood will fill my fangs after I am done with him, I will rid the world of Killmonger pack, I will cleanse this town with their blood, Ryder was strong as so I have heard and his son almost as strong as him, thats why I needed Candice by my side when I go after the pack, she will help me take the fight to them and I will rip them apart.
Whatever happened next, I knew one thing for sure: I wouldn’t let the Killmonger pack destroy anyone else’s lives. Not again. And somehow, that girl—Rachel—
was a part of this. Whether she knew it or not, our fates were now intertwined.
