Another Beginning

"Goodness!!, come out quickly or you'll be late to school"aunty favor shouted she was on her way to work and goodness had to be in school "I'm coming"goodness answered,"it seems I'll have to come get you by myself, unless you're going to take the whole day doing nothing"favor said jokingly,"I'm done!"goodness jumped out of her room "can we go now","yes my darling"favor looked and couldn't help but smile as she always did whenever goodness wore her uniform.Goodness was already getting used to her new environment,her mom usually called but she only recognized her mom as aunty and called aunty favor and her husband mom and dad,her father barely called to check on her she didn't even know him, and no one bothered to tell her,he was no use to her, favor and her husband took her as their first child and showed her with all the love in the world and goodness was always happy.They made sure she enjoyed being a toddler from outings to clothes and whatever the little girl wanted.Favor was a police officer while her husband an engineer they were making so much money,as bassey favor's husband worked with a British company.Sandra back home was doing quite well she was now a well known tailor as everyone far and wide will come to give her clothes to sew that's how she helped in the upbringing of her child.

Aunty favor was the first daughter of the family therefore she had so much responsibility, arrangements were made for rosemary to travel to calabar so she could write her waec(west African examination council) and also give a helping hand in raising goodness.

Favor and her husband hardly had problems, but this night was different he was shouting at the top of his voice, mostly complaining about the fact that they didn't have a child, but instead she was busy carrying family members into the house to come and eat all their money.Favor was speechless as her husband never behaved like this he was a good man who was always ready to help so this came as a surprise, from that day he started behaving differently towards everyone in the house including goodness,he would tell her not to call him daddy that he wasn't her father, this went on until goodness at that early age understood that he wasn't her father so she asked aunty favor who really was Goodness persisted in knowing who her father was, she didn't ask about her mom because aunty favor played a perfect role, she was consoled that during the holidays she would see her father, and from then on she had this slight fear towards bassey, she didn't like being around him she would always be in the room with rosemary if favor wasn't around.

It was a Friday evening and favor had not yet returned from work, goodness was having a nap and rosemary slept next to her just staring at the little child she had made rice but uncle bassey wouldn't let them eat and goodness cried of hunger until she slept off, uncle bassey rushed into room, and smiled at rosemary and said "your such a beautiful girl, do you know that", rosemary just stared in confusion and anger she was already very hungry and what was this man doing again she didn't even say a word to him"let me touch you small na, your sister won't know about it"he continued, this time his intentions were clear and rosemary was already filled with fury,"are you okay, you dey sick for brain nii, what is wrong with you, you better leave this place unless I'll scream",one wouldn't think rosemary could talk like this for she was a very quiet young lady "you even have the guts to talk,we shall see who is stronger"uncle bassey threatened as he removed his shorts and jumped on the bed, goodness was woken by this as she started crying, but that didn't bother bassey, rosemary struggled with this hefty man, and when just struggling didn't work she bit him,bassey screamed and rushed out of the room the same way he rushed in, goodness was already crying with all the pain in the world, from the fact that she hadn't eaten and the woken up from sleep, rosemary carried her and took her to the kitchen and made sure she took enough food for both of them she was no longer scared.Goodness ate to her satisfaction and bassey couldn't say a word.After that day rosemary did what she dim fit around the house and bassey didn't have a say, she was soon done with her exams and asked to go back home, but aunty favor already had a transfer she was going to move to ugep while her husband would move to benin.Bassey begged rosemary not to tell anyone about the incident and she agreed but offcourse she told her entire family except favor she didn't want to ruin her marriage, so aunty favor moved down to her hometown and goodness was finally far from bassey, which she now feared so much and was now close to her parents.
