Soon, some soldiers took note of odd noises and rustling sounds coming from the vegetation around them. They looked around as they advanced quickly, and at some point even the horses turned restless, some getting agitated enough to catch their riders by surprise. It was one of those soldiers who saw the yellow eyes watching him in the darkness of the undergrowth. A gust of wind carried an unexpected stench to his nose. When he glanced again, the eyes were gone. A strange sensation came over him—he was afraid. Other soldiers saw eyes shining from amidst the trees, and when a warrior disappeared screaming in the dark, a panic broke out.
