The next few days were strange for Anya.
Nathan kept showing up—outside her classroom, in the cafeteria, and sometimes at the library where they first met. He never pushed. He always smiled. And every time their eyes met, that strange pull in her chest stirred again.
She tried to keep her distance, but he was… different. Easy to talk to. Gentle. Funny. He had a way of making her forget, even if for a moment, the pain she'd carried since the rejection.
That evening, Anya sat with Lucy and Ashton on a video call, her expression uncertain.
“So… there’s something I have to tell you,” she said, her voice low. “I think I found another mate.”
Ashton nearly choked on his drink. Lucy’s eyes widened.
“What?!” they said in unison.
“It’s not like I planned it,” Anya added quickly. “His name is Nathan. He’s human.”
There was a pause.
Lucy blinked, then leaned closer to the camera.
“You’re saying your wolf bonded to a human?”
“Aurora confirmed it the moment we touched,” Anya said. “He doesn't have a wolf… but I feel it. That connection.”
Ashton looked thoughtful.
“There’s an old legend, Anya. It’s rare, but sometimes the Moon Goddess chooses a human to be bonded to a wolf. It's not about strength or bloodlines. It’s about balance.”
Lucy nodded slowly.
“I’ve read that too. In those cases, the bond can’t be sealed the usual way—through marking—but it's said to be even stronger. Sacred. If the bond is accepted willingly… their love can create powerful hybrid pups. Maybe stronger than anything our world has ever seen.”
Anya’s heart skipped.
“But what if he doesn’t accept me?” she whispered. “What if he’s terrified of what I am?”
Lucy’s expression softened.
“Then he’s not worthy of you. But Anya… maybe the Goddess gave you this bond for a reason.”
“Or to give you a second chance,” Ashton added, “with someone who won’t hurt you the way they did.”
Anya closed her eyes.
She didn’t know how to tell Nathan about her real self—about Aurora, the shifting, the wolves, the danger. For now, she would wait. Get to know him. Let him know her, before she revealed the truth.
Still, a sliver of doubt clung to her.
What if Nathan rejected her too?
Back on campus, Nathan sat alone in his dorm, staring at the spot on his hand where Anya had touched him.
He felt something strange when he was around her—something he couldn’t explain.
He didn’t know it yet, but the pull he felt wasn’t just attraction.
It was destiny.
