“Give us the bag, and we might just let you go...... untouched.”
The third man said, sizing me up with a look in his eyes that sent the wrong kind of shivers down my spine.
His voice sounded even more hoarse than the others.
“Hmm, untouched? I can’t guarantee that, brother. I hear the thick ones are the juiciest.”
What? Are they trying to rob and take advantage of me??
“Please, don’t hurt me. I don’t have anything valuable in my bag. Just some old clothes and my phone.”
I said as they surrounded me and started backing me into a corner.
“Mmm... her voice sounds so sweet. Imagine how sexy her moans and screams will sound.”
“Pleeaassee. Just take my phone and my bags, please don’t touch me.”
“Come on now, sweetie. Not with that dress you have on.”
Oh God, of all days to wear this dress.
Just as they were about to have my back against the wall, I saw a little space that I could run and escape through, but I needed a distraction.
“Hey!! Please help me!!!” I screamed at an imaginary person at the far-right corner of the street.
As soon as they looked in that direction, I let go of my suitcase and began running in the opposite direction.
“Huh?! She’s getting away!”
I heard their heavy footsteps running towards me, and I increased my pace.
They were already closing the distance between us, and to my dismay, I ran into a dead-end.
“You want to be smart, right? Now, we’re going to do this the hard way.”
I couldn’t differentiate the three of them anymore because this corner was even darker than the other one.
“Hold her down, I’ll go first. Then you both can have her after I’m done.”
He started undoing his belt as the other two came closer to hold me in place.
“Heeelllllpppppp!!!! Someone, help me pleeeaaaseeeeee!!!!” I screamed at the top of my lungs.
Before I could move, something slammed across my face.
My head snapped to the side, and for a second, all I heard was ringing.
Pain exploded across my cheek.
I tasted something metallic.
My trembling fingers touched my lip. When I pulled them away, they came back red.... Blood.
“Please...” My voice was weak. “Please don’t do this.”
“Lay her down!” the man snapped.
At this point, I could feel my lungs giving out.
I couldn’t scream anymore. Tears just ran down the sides of my face as my back hit the ground.
I couldn’t see clearly, so I just lay there as a part of me accepted my fate.
It felt as though the universe said, “Let me show you how many terrible things I can make happen to you in one day.”
God, is it my time? Is this how I go?
I hope I don’t make it through this night because if I do, it will not be easy for Daniel, Alice and Alex Paul, and even Patricia.
I will exact my revenge somehow. I will work on myself, become everything they left me for, and make them pay.
But for now, let’s see if I make it through the night.
My final thoughts as I closed my eyes.
The last thing I heard was a car screeching to a stop.
Then honking...... footsteps and then...... darkness.
JEREMY
I’ve never been such a big fan of these events, but I had to attend each one.
With time, I grew to enjoy them because they sharpened my ability to notice things and made me a better judge of character.
You could spot those who walked in and owned the room without trying, those who walked in trying so hard to own the room, those who were just happy to be there, and those who felt out of place.
Thankfully, today’s fundraising event was not unnecessarily long. I still had to edit the photos from today’s shoot.
I preferred the city after midnight because it was not boisterous, no one was in a hurry, and the noise was softer.
I loosened my tie as I got into the car.
“Home, sir?” Robert, my driver, asked.
“Please.”
I sat in the back seat scrolling through the photographs from that afternoon’s shoot, making some minor edits.
It was a long day, so I leaned back and closed my eyes as Robbie turned into Harlow Street just off Delancey.
“Help me, please!”
My eyes snapped open.
Just around the alley, there was a woman and three men.
I felt my stomach drop.
“Drive up that alley and lean on the horn!”
“Yes, sir.”
Thankfully, the men panicked and ran just before we got to her.
I opened the door and ran to her side.
“Miss!... Miss!! Are you okay?”
Kneeling over her, I saw the bruise on her cheek and the marks on her wrists.
Thank God we got here on time.
I looked around and spotted a suitcase far off and a brown bag a few meters away.
“Get her suitcase there and grab her bag, Rob. I’ll carry her to the car. She’s unconscious.”
I took off my jacket and covered her with it before carrying her to the car.
Soon after, we continued our journey home.
I have to find her details, maybe call her family or something.
I tried to reach for her bag in the passenger seat, but I couldn’t reach it as her head was on my lap.
“She looks too familiar. Rob, pass me her bag.”
I got her phone and tried switching it on, but the battery was flat, and she had no ID in her bag.
“Miss... Miss... What’s your name?”
She was coming back slowly, but she was still visibly in pain.
“A... Am..”
She was trying to speak, but her face was directly on my stomach area, so I moved her hair out of her face.
I was able to slowly turn her face upwards.
“Miss... what’s your name?”
“Ameer...” she muttered.
“Ameerr??”
“Amera.”
“Amera??”
Amera??
“Sir.... is she the Amera?”
I frowned.
“What?”
“The girl from your photographs.”
I quickly turned on the dome light.
For a second, I forgot how to breathe.
No, it couldn’t be.
Amera?
