Let me tell you a tale about my family. They are the oldest living family in our town. I don't remember how I became a Wilson. What I can remember is that. I was 15 when I discovered that I was different from the others in my family. I knew something wasn't right. It started when I was five when I could see the difference between my mother and me. Her looks were significantly lighter than mine, and she wasn't as nice as people would say my mother was. She looked so odd, from what I could remember and that's when I knew that my birth mother had given me a way to a stranger. Life wasn't all that bad being raised by her. She loved me as if I was one of her children, even though I was the only girl out of her three boys she would always talk about wanting a girl, but after her last son, she couldn't carry full-term, so she gave up hope till my mother came along and offered her a deal to raise me as her own and not to let anyone know that I wasn't her baby. There was a dark secret she was hiding from everyone about her family and the power I would soon hold when I turned 16. I think she just wanted me to have a normal life. My 15th birthday was just around
the corner and strange things were starting to happen in the townspeople everyone was acting differently when we would come to the supermart my mom didn't let
it bothered her when the townsfolks would ask why I had dark black hair and the greenest eyes when all of her children had blond hair and blue eyes and were
very light skin. The weather was fair, not too cold or hot just in the middle with a cool breeze of the smell of roses in the air. Which was usually because
the town always smelled of the sawmill that was at the edge of town. You could smell the wood dust every day, but today all I could smell were flowers and the
The more I walked down the street, the stronger I could smell the flowers like they were pulling me to someone. I didn't hear my mother yelling for me as I kept following the smell and came across a small shack that was covered in flowers. I had never seen this shack in town before. It was a little beat up and ran down, you wouldn't believe anyone lived there, but before I could open the broken little gate that sat in front of the path to the shack my mother grabbed my hand. Didn't you hear me calling for you Krissy what are you doing we need to get home before it's too late? I looked at my mother and asked, do you see this shack here where did it come from I've never seen this here in town. Krissy what are you talking about there's nothing here I don't see any shack now let us go. When I turned back to the gate there was nothing there but an old path leading to the woods I swear Mother there was an old shack here and the smell of roses. You have been in the sun for too long now come child it's a long walk back home. I picked up the basket of bread and followed my mother as we walked down a dusty path road back home away from town looking back every few seconds to see if the shack returned but nothing maybe my mother was right it had been a sunny day. When we got home my mother told me to be quiet about what I had seen and not to speak of it again I nodded my head but couldn't stop thinking of the shack and that smell it was like I knew it but couldn't remember from when. I set the table for dinner as my family came into the room I always had to help my mother with cooking and cleaning as for women that is our job well the man in the family worked the fields. Once everyone was done eating I cleaned the table and asked my mother if I could go tend to the animals before it got dark I love being with the animals because they were like my friends. My brothers didn't like me much and would make fun of me and play a cruel game by calling me a witch so the other children wouldn't play with me but as long as I had the animals it didn't bother me. Once I finished feeding the animals I picked some flowers for my nightstand I loved the smell of flowers by my bed when I slept. My mother didn't like me to be out when the moon rises she said only evil is out on a full moon and that the devil will steal your soul in the dark. So I tried to hurry back inside before the sunset but something was blocking the door I couldn't get it to open and it was getting dark and out in the field, I could hear something whispering my name like it was calling for me to follow. I turned back to the door and hit it harder yelling let me in as I was scared of what was in the field calling me. no one came to the door but I could hear my brothers laughing holding the door closed as I cried out to be let in. Tom held the door with all of his might laughing and saying the wolf is coming for you he wants his dinner. The moon was full and you could hear the howling in the air as the sounds of howls got closer to the field behind me I was too scared to turn around
but could feel the presence of something hiding in the dark watching as I yelled and screamed to be let in. You could hear your father yelling at Tom for holding the door closed as I pushed on the door Tom opened it and I fell onto the floor dropping all the flowers I had gathered from the woods. Crying from hitting the floor I looked to see your father with an angry look of disappointment as I lay crying on the floor trying to clean up the flowers that had fallen all over the floor. Clean this mess Krissy and get to bed it's late your father said without giving you another look. Krissy's father never really cared for her knowing what he knew he never treated her as his own like he did his sons I feel he never wanted a girl in the first place but he gave my mother anything she wanted to make her happy and she always wanted a girl so here I am. After cleaning the floor I went to my room which was just a small bed with a stand next to it that held a small vase for my flowers they made everything smell good in my small corner space in the back of the house where they had put me once I turned 10 years old I feel like an outcast sleeping so far from everyone in the house but I my mother love's me she comes sometimes on stormy nights and holds me tight so I am not
alone when the thunder hits she knows that I am afraid of the thunder and the dark. I feel things when the storm comes like someone is coming for me or calling for me to come to them a power pulling me to them sometimes I feel I want to run to the power that calls me but I am afraid for what lies in the dark calling me.
I got ready for bed I put the new flowers in the vase got under the covers blew out the candle closed my eyes and dreamed of wild horses running through
the wild as I rode an all-white horse with long black hair like mine with silk-like blue her hair as it flowed in the wind as we rode through a field of
wildflowers. As morning came the sun shined through the little window in my room warming my face and waking me with the smell of the flowers by my bedside.
she yawned and rubbed her eyes to the light shining through the window making her way out of bed to make breakfast with her mother she loved the times she shared
with her, just the two of them till her father and brothers came to the table and the feeling of being an outcast would feel her heart again as if she didn't
belong at the table with the rest of the family being around them made her feel so unwanted. Krissy's mother was the only one who made her feel loved and wanted
that's why she loved the time they had together without the boys even if it was just doing chores it was time she had with her mother all to herself. After the
morning chores were done Krissy got ready for school it was a two-mile walk and she was already running behind as there was much more to do that morning as she
changed into her school clothes tied her boot she grabbed her books and headed for the door waving bye to her mother trying to catch up to her brothers as
she didn't like to walk alone through the woods but they had left way before her not saying a word as they ran off down the dirt path in the woods too far for her to see them. Krissy held her books tight to her chest as she walked alone through the woods singing a song her mother taught her to not make her feel
so afraid when she is cared for. The clouds had started to darken the wind blew harder with the sound of her name as if something was watching her. Krissy
looked around trying to see if someone was there but nothing, not even another soul in sight she began to walk faster looking behind her not knowing there was a young boy on the same path in front of her as she ran into the back of him dropping her books and falling to the ground cutting her knee just a little. Laying on the ground face down she hears his soft voice asking. Are you ok? He puts his hand out to help her to her feet kneeling to help her stand up and dust the
dirt off her dress. Looking down still, she didn't notice how handsome the young boy was he was breathtaking. Krissy lifted her head to thank him but got lost in his blue eyes they were the bluest eyes she had ever seen. The young boy held out his hand and handed Krissy her books asking her if she likes to walk to school with him. She smiled and nodded yes as she had lost her words she was taken by his smile as he kissed her hand and introduced himself to Luke. had asked her what
she was doing alone walking in the woods. Krissy answered I was with my brothers but I had fallen behind it might sound strange but I thought I heard someone calling my name in the wind. Luke laughed and said when you are alone in the woods your mind can play tricks on you so no it doesn't sound strange to me at all. Krissy smiled and thanked him for not laughing at her for what she had told him. Luke walked her to the door of a small red and white building with a bell on the
side of the door that hung very low for the teacher to ring when school started. Thank you so much for walking me to school and for the help in the woods even though I knocked you down. I am glad you knocked into me I had a nice time walking with you and the little bit of talking we had. Luke bent over, kissed her hand, and asked if he could walk her home after school. Krissy looked confused and said won't you be coming to school. Luke answered I am too old for school and I just came into town to open another shop for my family we live in the hills of Milly it's a small town about three hours away there are not many outside in our
small town. The teacher stepped outside the door to ring the bell and saw Krissy talking by the side of the woods, she yelled for her to come in, and asked her
why she was talking to herself. With a confused look on her face when the teacher asked her, she answered I was talking with a young boy named Luke who had just come here to open a shop in town for his family. The teacher didn't know what to say because the only Luke he had known was killed years ago in the woods by a wolf while walking to town one late night as the story goes. The teacher hurried Krissy inside as he rang the last bell for school to start with two more pulls he turned to walk inside when a black figure caught his eye by the side of the woods where the path had sat by the edge of the woods he didn't know what to make of it as he shut the door and walked to the front of the class. Krissy hurried to her seat before the teacher got to the front as all eyes were on her for being late to class she sat in her seat by the window looking out towards the woods trying to see if Luke was still there by the edge of the path wondering what she would say to her mother about meeting a boy in the woods that nobody knows she knew her mother would be upset because she wasn't allowed to talk with strangers not only did she talk to a stranger she had let him walk with her alone in the woods where something could of happen but who would believe her for she was a girl alone in the woods unaccompanied with a strange boy that wasn't from her home town and she was already considered an outcast from the town's people. As she thought about it she told herself I'll just keep it to myself because I don't need my mother to worry more about me being different and my father will be more upset with me if he found out I was with Luke alone without my brothers. In her head, she didn't hear the teacher ring the bell for the end of school as she was the last to leave alone again. She looked for her brother as she stood on the steps of the school while the teacher locked the door grabbing his bag and turning to leave he asked Krissy where her brothers were to walk her home as she couldn't in those days walk alone for it was on uncommon for a woman or a young girl to be uncompany well outside there home. Krissy didn't know what to say as the teacher walked past her down the steps. I don't have anyone to walk me my brothers have left me behind and I don't want to be in the woods alone when it's so close to dark. The teacher looked to see if any other students were there to walk Krissy home. Then out of nowhere, Luke came up the dirt path from the woods and said I will walk Krissy home. The teacher looked confused as he asked him where he had come from and that he couldn't just let Krissy leave with a stranger. Luke faced the teacher looked him in the eyes and said I'm not a stranger I'm a friend of Krissy's and I always walk her home. The teacher replied your right I had forgotten then told them to have a good day put his bag in the basket of his bike and rode away. Krissy asked Luke how did you do that? Luke said it's an old trick I learned from my family. Well, that's a good trick to know I wish I could do magic like that on people. Maybe one day I could teach you as he held his hand out for her books to carry them for her reaching for her other hand to hold walking her down the steps. Krissy held his hand with a smile of happiness inside because she never had a boy or anybody for that matter be so nice to her. As they got closer to the dirt path Krissy could hear a strange sound coming from behind a tree in the woods she stopped to listen as Luke stood in front of her with a concerned look on his face as if he knew what the sound was coming from the woods. Maybe we shouldn't go this way to your house today is there another way for you to get home? No this is the fastest path to take it would take hours through town to get to my home. Luke had pulled Krissy towards him and told her to hold his hand tight as they got closer to the woods he whispered words under his breath. Krissy couldn't make out what he was saying as he spoke so low and she didn't understand why he was speaking strange words well they got closer to the woods. Luke finished speaking the words as the sound disappeared from the woods. Krissy just looked at Luke not saying a word confused about what had happened. Luke said I know you don't understand what's going on right now but with time you will understand what and who we are for now please keep this to yourself. Krissy nodded her head without saying a word but thought what do I say to what I had just seen? Luke held Krissy's hand as they started to walk down the path to her home she smiled at him as she held his hand tighter. She stopped Luke a mile from her home and told him that she would have to walk alone so she wouldn't get in trouble for being with a stranger. Luke pulled her hand to his lips kissing so softly till we met again as he turned back to the woods and disappeared from her sight. Krissy took a deep breath and started to walk through the field to the house when running at her was a small dog she had never seen before as it got closer she stood still hoping it wouldn't bite her. The dog sat down in front of her wagging his tail and looking up at her as if they had been friends. Krissy put her hand out to pet the dog on the head but before she could he ran off to the woods she could hear her brothers yelling and carrying on in the field behind her. She looked at her brothers as they yelled to come inside the house they walked up to the door to go inside. Krissy headed towards the door as she got closer she could hear the thunder in the clouds and see the sky was starting to darken and the wind sounded like howls from a wolf. I turned into the sound of the howls as the wind carried the sound across the field sounding as if the wolf was right behind me breathing on my neck and whispering in my ear as the smell of sweet roses cast across my nose. The air
filled with the scent of roses in the wind making it more powerful almost too much to bear for me not to follow the smell. Without knowing I had walked to the middle of the field by the edge of the woods. I still take in the smell of roses with a sweet hint of honey now that I have gotten closer to the woods the honey smell grows stronger the closer I enter the wood line of the trees from the edge of the field. The air must have changed causing a scent of lavender to hit my nose and turning me back toward my home I stood frozen trying to understand where all these smells were coming from and why I have a great sense of smell for just those flowers but couldn't smell the other flowers all around me in the field. Krissy didn't know much about her true family and didn't know the signs of a mate when you start to have sweet smells in the air it lets you know it's time to find your mate or your other half. The smells were getting overwhelming and I started to feel dizzy and tried to make it back throw the field but everything seemed like it was going dark and I couldn't stand any longer. Before she could hit the ground a young boy ran out and put his arms out to catch her as she fell into his arms he whispered mine with a soft voice as he carried her and laid her at the door and knocked then ran back to the wooded trees to watch behind a tree. The door opens and Krissy's father picks her up yelling for her mother to come quickly. Krissy's mother ran to her side asking what had happened yelling at her sons as if they had done something to her. One of the sons spoke up and said she was out on the field when we told her to come inside. Krissy's mother looked at her father with worry in her eyes as they filled with tears. It's time, he said as he put Krissy into bed, telling his wife. She cried out she was still too young to know why, now she said as the tears fell from her face. Hours went by and Krissy still had not woken up or moved. She looked to be in a deep sleep. boys' their father called out, telling them to follow him to the barn. There are some things we need to do well. Your mother takes care of your sister. The oldest son mumbles under his breath that she is no sister of mine. The men leave and head to the barn with just a lantern and their father's shotgun. Tom asked his father" why do you need your gun?" He answered with a little bit of fear in his eyes," there have been some wild dogs running free, and we need to keep the animals safe tonight, but he couldn't let his sons know that a wolf was nearby watching them. Krissy's father had heard the tales of what had lived in the woods for hundreds of years. There were all kinds of stories about the woods and how a strong and beautiful young lady would walk them every night never aging always looking the same with a warm and welcoming glow around her as if it was lighting her way around the forest. People say you only see her at night when the moon is full some say they thought there was a small puppy-like child that would walk by her side with the blackest fur you had ever seen with such beauty. I never really believed those stories they were just things people would say to scary kids to keep them out of the forest. Krissy's mother sat by her bedside with a damp cloth cooling her forehead whispering everything going to be okay I'm here don't worry little one and started to sing Krissy's song. As her mother sang the song Krissy's eyes began to open. she could hear her mother's voice sing the song that would make her feel safe and warm inside. Krissy looked up at her mother. What happened. Why am I still in bed? You were sick and passed out from a fever yesterday little one, but you are going to be ok now. Krissy turned to look out the window to see the sun shining and warming her face as she pulled herself up to sit upright on the bed. I looked back at my mother.
And smiled, holding her hand in mine while the other moved through my hair as she still sang my song to make me feel relaxed. Outside the window, I could see my father and brothers feeding the livestock and pulling hay bails from the barn. Mother should we start breakfast? It's getting late, and you know Father will want to eat when he's done with the fields. I know little one but for today I need you to stay in bed and rest and not open the window today there is a smell of rot outside and I don't want it coming inside your room. What Krissy didn't know was her mother had lied to her. Krissy's mother didn't want the wolf to smell her scent and was coming in time for her to find her mate. Krissy's mother and father knew that their daughter was different. Krissy's real mother was half witch and wolf and the father was a vampire. She was a mix of all breeds and the first of her kind, so they didn't know what she would become. Mother, I would love to help you this morning. I am feeling much better after that long sleep and I feel the fever has passed. Besides, I don't want to lie in bed all day. Krissy looks at her Mother with a sad face, hoping her mother will change her mind and let her help this morning. As Krissy waits for her mother's reply, her mind begins to wonder about Luke and if she will see him again. She doesn't understand why her mind is thinking of him and how he smells of roses. The smell of Luke made her wonder how a person could smell so roses when they didn't even grow in the woods and where could he be from.
As I watch from the woods hiding behind trees, I haven't seen Krissy come out of the house all day wondering if she is OK I know she doesn't know what she is and her real mother left her here to be raised by humans, but my wolf will not rest till we know are mate is ok. I could smell her the day before in the woods along with a vampire. The overpowering smell of cherries and strawberries made my wolf go crazy in my head, howling for his mate. We had been looking for so long, and now we found her. When I saw her walking and holding hands with Luke, my wolf almost lost it making him cry out in a howl of sadness. Looking from afar, Luke heard us knowing I was close and my wolf hearing him speak. I will not hurt her. She is my mate too, and I will keep her safe. Please don't come out and scare her. She is not ready yet. With Luke speaking to my wolf, DASH settled down but stayed close enough to keep an eye on our mate. She was still too young to understand the mate bond and, being raised by humans, she wouldn't understand what we are. It was going to be a long journey for her to understand where she came from, and we would have to keep her safe. I know the other witches were looking for her to steal her power when she came of age. That's why her mother left her with the humans and hid her powers from the others. The only thing her mother couldn't do was hide the mate bond.
